You don't need new hardware to combat digital eye strain. The solution is already built into your screen.

Staring at a screen for too long can make your eyes feel tired, and a major reason is the high-energy blue light most LED screens emit. While blue light plays a role in our sleep-wake cycle, overexposure from devices can lead to digital eye strain and, potentially, long-term retinal damage.

The good news is that most modern monitors and devices come with a built-in filter (like Low Blue Light) that specifically reduces this harmful light. If your device doesn't have this hardware, you can use software filters like Night Shift on macOS or Night Light on Windows.

Are you using your phone to relax, or are you just too addicted to put it down?

Most professionals donโ€™t actually stop working when their day ends. They just switch screens.

After spending hours draining your mental energy on spreadsheets, meetings, and emails, reaching out for the phone may seem like an easy way to relax.

But it is actually a trap. To a tired brain, the high-velocity dopamine hits from a phone don't provide recovery. They provide over-stimulation. This leaves you even more drained.

Easiest way to break this cycle: consciously go offline after work, even if for a few hours. Try using the Airplane mode, switch off notifications, and create gadget-free zones in the house.

Just as a performance athlete needs their muscles to recover, your brain needs that cognitive break to recover for the next day.

Go offline. Let your brain recharge. Try it for 7 days and feel the difference yourself.

Have you ever been handed a document that was a photocopy of a photocopy?

With each copy, the black text fades to gray, and the white background picks up smudges. Soon, you're struggling to tell where the letters end and the page begins.

That's exactly what your eyes go through with poor screen contrast.

If the contrast between your text and background is too low, your eyes have to work overtime to distinguish every letter. This extra effort can lead to eye fatigue and blurred vision. Research shows that increasing the contrast can help reduce the effort your eyes have to exert while reading.

Hereโ€™s how to check and adjust your screenโ€™s contrast.

โžก๏ธ For Windows, go to Settings > System > Display > High contrast. You can also use your monitorโ€™s on-screen display (OSD) menu.

โžก๏ธ For Mac, go to System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Adjust Display Contrast.

A dark font on a light background is generally the most comfortable option for long-term reading.

Take a moment to check your screen.
