Why does TB treatment take SO long? 🤯

TB treatment usually lasts 6–9 months and is done in 2 phases:
1️⃣ Intensive phase (first 2 months):
Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol

2️⃣ Continuation phase (next 4–7 months):
Rifampicin + Isoniazid

This is because TB bacteria are very stubborn and can remain dormant in your body even when symptoms improve within the first few weeks. Stopping treatment early can increase the risk of relapse or drug resistance, making TB much harder to treat. That’s why completing your full course of treatment is so important.
