Restorative Work On Our Dog JJ.

Recently our dog JJ developed a limp. Being a 12 year old Golder Retriever, it wouldn't be surprising that his mind is more willing than his body when it comes to doing his daily walks.

One day his left hind leg started giving him a problem. He wouldn't want to walk, had difficulty getting up and once he stood up, would be hesitant to sit back down or squat to do his business. When he does walk, he would be limping along with such difficulty that it pains the heart to see.

Being a practitioner of Trigger Point Therapy, I ventured to palpate the muscles around his left hip and found one particular muscle of his inner thigh trembles whenever I palpate it. So it seemed that the muscle was strained, causing weakness and possibly pain when engaging it for walking or sitting back down.

I thought, if it's a muscle problem, then maybe some restorative bodywork could help, and so for two days, I helped him slowly release the tenseness in his trembly muscle. After the first session, he was already more confident to get up from lying down, sit back down from standing up, squatting to do his business and walked with less limp. By the second session, he was about back to his normal self again, happily dragging us along on walks and enjoying one of his favourite activities of the day.

Take a break every now and then to move and stretch, don't stay stagnant staring at your monitor or phone! You might get tight muscles and Trigger Points for constantly/repeatedly holding a position throughout the day.

Here are some ideas in case you need some, instead of just getting up to go to the toilet (although that might still be better than nothing).

If these are not enough and muscle tightness starts to become pain, weakness or joint stiffness, let me know and schedule an appointment.

For Healthy Hip - Knee - Ankle

We need healthy muscle function and joint mobility in our hip, knee and ankle to get around everyday; to stand, walk, run or to hop, skip, jump or to cycle, rollerblade, skate.

To move in the intended direction, we angle our hip, knee and ankle to control balance and thrust. Falls, slips and twisting of joints in the wrong way *ouch* happen when the muscles around them are weak with Myofascial Trigger Points.

Finding and Removing trigger points that cause muscle weakness Restores Comfort, Strength and Mobility to our Hip, Knee and Ankle.

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is a non-invasive, non-drug, no-nonsense approach to solve muscle and joint pain and restoring them to proper function.

Our Elbow Is Just The Mid-Point

The muscles and joints from our shoulder down down our arms to our finger tips are what we use to grip, hold and lift things. Having Myofascial Trigger Points along any part of that "chain" could affect us in various ways. We might experience a combination of restriction, weakness and pain when turning our heads, lifting our arms, picking up, holding things, moving and placing things with our hands.

Finding and Removing those trigger points Restores Comfort, Strength, Mobility and Dexterity in our Neck, Shoulder, Arm and Fingers.

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is a non-invasive, non-drug, no-nonsense approach to finding Trigger Points that cause muscle and joint issues and restoring them to proper function.

Case study of another neck issue.

A client came in with report of having pain when opening his jaw to eat and experiencing restriction when turning his head to one side which started about 2 months ago when he started carrying a heavy backpack to go to work.

Upon palpating around his neck region, it is found that there were Trigger Points in his Levator Scapulae, Scalene, Sternocleidomastoid and Rhomboid Minor muscles.

Releasing the Trigger Points in those muscles resulted in immediate relief and restored jaw and neck mobility.

I'm glad his year can start with such a relief.

Sharing a non-scientific photo comparison showing the effect of Myofascial Trigger Point release for the quadratus lumborum (QL) allowing the body to recover from the strain.

A client came in with chronic low back pain, seeking help to release Trigger Points in his QL. It started years ago when he strained his QL at work. He knows about Trigger Points and has been using a tennis ball for self-release, which helped ease the pain and restriction. The issue wasn't that Trigger Point release wasn't effective, but rather the tennis ball couldn't reach the part of his QL that needed it, and so the pain keeps coming back.

Over time the situation developed into a hip and shoulder tilt (circled) and affected his work and outdoor activities. His hips would tire quickly and pain would creep in.

In one session, the Trigger Points in his QL and surrounding muscles were released. It was at times intense but he was happy to feel the release in the QL where he couldn't reach before; Trigger Points were also released in other muscles which were contributing to the situation.

Incidentaly, right after the session, he hiked Bukit Timah hill! And a few days later, he was kind enough to show me how his situation was improving.

It cannot be mentioned enough how important our hips are to our quality of life and how much more enjoyable life is when the right Trigger Points are removed and our body is allowed to recover because of that.

When we feel pain around our neck, upper back, chest and arm, it could have originated from Trigger Points in muscles surrounding our shoulder.

"Use it or lose it" is very true for our muscles and joints. We have only ourselves to keep our shoulders healthy; incorporating daily shoulder exercises to stretch the muscles and mobilize the joint is immensely effective.

Sometimes we happen to neglect our shoulders or accidentally strain it; and Trigger Points start to accumulate; and we may need help to set us on the path to recovery.

Come for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy to find and neutralize the right Trigger Points. When the Trigger Points are gone, the pain will also go and recovery can begin.

Muscle Knots Begone!

Muscle knots are very common. They feel like lumps in the muscle and the muscle may feel tight, weak and even have a dull pain emanating from it to nearby joints and they are painful when pressed. There are things that can be done to provide some relief:

1. Put a heat pack or ice pack on it see which one makes it feel better.

2. Get a massage, specifically the Myofascial Release type. It should be more effective than other types of massages for dealing with muscle knots.

3. Apply firm yet comfortable pressure on it for 10-20 seconds using fingers, knuckles, foam roller, tennis or massage ball.

4. Stretch it out. Always follow up after working on a knot with stretches as it will help keep knots from coming back too soon.

Hip Hip Hoorah!

Our Hips are probably the busiest part of our body as we go about our daily lives because almost everything we do, we need to put our hips into it.

That's why many powerful muscles connect to our hips to keep it stable, otherwise there will be pain, restrictions and balance issues to stand up, sit down, sit up, walk, jog, run, cycle, dance and it could be a little difficult to bend over to pick up a $50 note on the ground.

These are just a few examples of the importance of our hips and hip muscles in our daily activities. Active Trigger Points in any of those muscles will impact hip strength and joint mobility.

For hip weakness or restrictions not caused by injuries or natural deformities, book an appointment to come in for a session to have all involved Trigger Points identified and neutralized so that daily activities are enjoyable again.
Drop me a message to make an appointment or to find out more. I would like to hear from you whether you or someone you know have any muscle and joint pain that need to be worked on.

Pain! Pain! Help!

Normally we would think of Muscle and Joint pain as a bad thing. It is irritating, stops us from doing the activities we love and generally we just don't enjoy having pain.

However, muscle and joint pain is actually good for our well being. It is our body's way of telling us when something is going or has gone awry so we can take steps to heal, rejuvenate and prevent further damage before it stops us from enjoying the activities we truly love, such as shopping, exercising, using our phones & computers, sleeping, working, cooking, playing with the kids, walking the dog & etc.

Trigger Point Therapy is an effective, direct, no nonsense, non-drug, non-invasive way to rid pain and restore muscle and joint function. It is like doing a reset for strained muscles and joints, especially for muscles that feel like they have knots inside.

So when pain happens, it might just be time for some muscle reset with Trigger Point Therapy.

FB Messenger me or IG DM if you want to find out more about Trigger Point Therapy. I would like to hear from you what pains are stopping you from enjoying your favorite activities and let's see what Trigger Point Therapy can do for you.
