The Moro reflex (or startle reflex) is one of the first signs of a newborn’s developing nervous system. 👶✨

You might see your baby suddenly throw their arms out, then pull them back in — usually after a loud noise or quick movement. This reflex is completely normal and helps us check healthy brain and motor development.

It typically disappears around 4–6 months. If it lasts longer or appears uneven, it’s a good idea to mention it to your pediatrician.

Ever feel like you’re *constantly guessing* if your baby’s tired? 😅

Here’s a little secret — catching those early sleepy cues can be the difference between a calm nap and a full-on overtired meltdown. 💤

Watch for signs like:
👁️ Glazed or distant eyes
🥱 Slower movements or gentle zoning out
🤱 Turning away from stimulation
🖐️ Rubbing eyes or ears
😴 Quiet alertness

When you catch these early, you can start your nap or bedtime routine before baby becomes overtired — which makes falling asleep so much easier.

Every baby is unique, so try learning *your* little one’s patterns. You’ll start spotting them like a pro in no time. 💕

✨ Save this for later (trust me, future you will thank present you).

Tiny tummy truth: your baby’s stomach is smaller than you think! Even great sleepers may still need night feeds—especially in the early months. Sleep training doesn’t mean night weaning. A sleep trained baby can fall back asleep quickly and independently after a much needed feed when they're hungry. Follow your baby’s cues, feed when they're hungry and give yourself grace. You’re doing amazing!

✨ The Golden Triangle of Baby Sleep ✨

There’s no *one-size-fits-all* approach when it comes to newborn sleep — every baby is different. But if you’re looking for simple ways to create a calmer sleep environment, start with the **golden triangle**:

💤 **Swaddle** – helps recreate the cozy feeling of the womb.
🌙 **White Noise** – blocks out background sounds and soothes your baby.
❄️ **Cool Room Temp** – around 20–22°C helps babies sleep safer and longer.

These three basics can make a world of difference when building healthy sleep habits for your little one 💕

3 Common Baby Sleep Challenges (and Why They’re Normal)

1️⃣ Newborn Day/Night Confusion
Those upside-down newborn nights? Totally normal.
Your baby’s body clock (*circadian rhythm*) isn’t set yet — they don’t know days from nights.

**What helps:**
☀️ Daytime light + play
🌘 Dark, calm nights
🍼 Simple, quiet night feeds

💡 Within a few weeks, their rhythm starts syncing naturally.

2️⃣ The 4-Month Sleep “Regression”
Your baby’s sleep isn’t regressing — it’s *maturing.* 🧠
At around 4 months, they develop adult-like sleep cycles and start waking more fully between them.

**What helps:**
✨ Consistent bedtime routine
😴 Practice drowsy-but-awake
🫶 Patience — this phase resets within a few weeks

Think of it as a *progression,* not a problem.

3️⃣ Milestone-Related Regressions
Rolling, crawling, standing… and suddenly, sleepless?
When babies learn new skills, their brain’s in overdrive. Temporary sleep bumps = normal growth.

**What helps:**
🌤️ Practice skills by day
💤 Keep routines steady
🤍 Offer comfort & connection

Sleep returns once the milestone becomes second nature.

💾 Save this for your next sleep struggle — or tag a parent who needs the reminder that *this too shall pass.*

Sleep training progress isn’t always a straight line — and that’s *totally normal*! 💫

Night 2 might feel like a win, only for Night 3 to throw you a curveball 😵‍💫. Progress often looks like a few steps forward, then a few steps back — but each step still matters.

✨ Be patient with the process. Habits take time to change, especially if your little one has been sleeping a certain way for months (or years!). Stay consistent and trust the journey — most families start to see big improvements within about two weeks. 💪💤

You haven't changed a thing... yet your perfect sleeper suddenly wakes at 5am consistently. What's going on?

Many parents wouldn't suspect hunger at all as their toddlers aren't crying or eating more at breakfast. But hunger past the newborn stage can often look really different! Slight hunger pangs can be enough to wake your little ones. If you've ruled out other usual suspects such as too much daytime sleep or morning light, Switch dinner up for more filling options - simple changes can often make a big difference!

Time to ditch the pacifier? Here are a few games to make the transition easier! These games are designed for kids 2 and older.

1. Binky Fairy
2. Pacifier Garden
3. Send the Parcel

Give it a try - kids are super keen to be told that they're all grown up and love the idea that they're helping others!

Let's talk pacifiers! Constantly reinserting the pacifier during the night can get frustrating real fast. If your baby is older than 9 months old, you can throw a bunch of pacifiers in the crib and teach them how to find one and reinsert! If your baby is younger than that, ditching the pacifier may be the best way forward.

Are you Team Pacifier or Team Ditch It?

Sometimes, early morning wakings are related to hunger! By the time your baby is 7 - 8months old (assuming they have established solids around 6 months of age), they should be on 3 solid meals a day. Not only do our fast growing bubs need the nutrition, we also cannot expect them to sleep until morning if they're going for more than 15 hours without solids! That's why some babies still need that middle of the night feed! Come check out some feeding tips to ensure that your baby is feeling satiated come bedtime!
