🛠️ Singapore’s New Standard for Accessible Changing Rooms (2025 Update)
👩‍🦽💙 Because dignity and comfort should be for everyone.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has rolled out updated guidelines in the Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment 2025—and it’s a big win for inclusion!
Here’s what’s now required for Accessible Changing
Rooms across Singapore:
✅ Spacious Layout: Minimum internal dimensions of 2600 mm wide × 2300 mm deep—plenty of room for wheelchair users and caregivers to move safely.
âś… Essential Features:
• A height-adjustable changing bed (at least 1800 mm × 750 mm) that supports up to 200 kg
• A wheelchair-accessible washroom with all the right fittings
• An alert system for assistance
• Clear signage with the official accessibility symbol so users can easily locate the room
đź’ˇ Bonus Advisory: BCA recommends installing a hoist system to help caregivers transfer individuals with less physical strain.
This isn’t just about compliance—it’s about compassion. These rooms empower adults with disabilities to access public spaces with dignity, safety, and ease.
Let’s celebrate this step forward and keep pushing for a more inclusive Singapore! 🇸🇬✨
