It was late December in a year where my life had gone nowhere. My career situation was at the bottom of a lake. My family life was gone. I was unable to do sports and to lose weight because I was falling asleep at the gym or pool. It was a negative cycle of sleeping late, sleeping poorly, and waking up feeling exhausted. I was in deep depression every morning and night.
I had trouble remembering people’s names and even the start of conversations that I was still in the middle of! I had little to zero working memory, even though a few years before I had graduated at the top of my university cohort.
Even my romantic life with my spouse was affected. Both of us were unhappy with our love lives. Then one day my GP asked me: “Do you have sleep apnea?” I had no idea what my doctor was talking about. But after some research on its symptoms, I experienced an awakening like never before.
Persistent afternoon headaches - check. Falling sick often - check. Frequent moodiness - check. These, and the many other symptoms above, pointed to sleep apnea. I didn’t bother to do a sleep test. I ordered an Auto CPAP machine online and to my amazement, after weeks of getting used to therapy, my life began to fall back in place. I began to have the energy to exercise. I lost at least 5 kilograms in the year following CPAP therapy.
