🐾 Pets are part of the family and can provide meaningful support during cancer treatment.

However, as your immune system may be weakened, it is important to take extra precautions when caring for your pet.

Speak with your doctor to understand how you can continue caring for your pet safely during treatment.

Around 𝟒 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟎 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, linked to factors we can change such as lifestyle habits, infections and environmental exposures.

This means small, everyday choices can make a real difference:
• Quit smoking
• Stay active and maintain a healthy weight
• Limit alcohol intake
• Protect yourself through vaccinations such as HPV and Hepatitis B
• Go for regular health screening

Some cancers, including lung, stomach and cervical cancer, are strongly linked to these preventable risks.

𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 (𝐈𝐏) 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬

From 𝟏 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, new requirements for IP riders will take effect in Singapore as part of efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of healthcare insurance.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:
If you purchased your IP rider before 27 November 2025, your current coverage will generally continue with no immediate changes, unless your insurer reviews or updates the policy terms. No action is required at this point.

The changes apply to:
• New riders purchased from 1 April 2026 onwards
• Riders purchased between November 2025 and March 2026 will transition to the new requirements at the first policy renewal on or after 1 April 2028

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬:
• Co-insurance (co-payment) remains at 5%, with an annual cap of S$6,000
• The co-insurance cap applies on an annual basis rather than per visit

For treatments such as outpatient chemotherapy or inpatient hospital care, this means out-of-pocket costs are accumulated across the policy year, subject to the applicable deductible and co-insurance cap.

MediSave may be used to help offset part of the out-of-pocket costs for approved treatments, subject to prevailing withdrawal limits and guidelines.

We hope this overview helps clarify the upcoming changes. 😉

“We must keep fighting, and do it with joy.” — Mdm Herawati

Mdm Herawati travelled from Indonesia to Singapore to accompany her husband for his cancer treatment. During that time, she received a diagnosis of her own.

What began as support for someone she loves became a journey she had to face herself.

Through it all, she holds on to courage, faith, and a remarkable sense of positivity. Her message to other patients is simple yet powerful. Do not give up. Trust the doctors who are caring for you. Face each step with strength. Choose joy, even in the hardest moments.

At OncoCare, we are honoured to care for patients not only from Singapore, but from across the region. Stories like hers remind us that healing is not only about treatment. It is also about resilience, hope, and the strength of the human spirit. ❤

Cancer is often seen as a disease that affects older adults, but more young people today are being diagnosed earlier than expected.

Our Senior Medical Oncologist, 𝐃𝐫 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐘𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐰𝐞𝐧, together with Consultant General Surgeon, 𝐃𝐫 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐄𝐤𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐢 𝐏𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢, were recently featured on Kompas TV’s Bincang Kita to discuss cancer in young people, including early warning signs to look out for and why early detection matters.

In this conversation, they share insights to help raise awareness and encourage people to seek medical advice early when something does not feel right.
