Cultivating Good Habits 🧐❤️

Practicing a few good habits from young can help your child enjoy better vision as they grow up!

When you cultivate good eye care habits in your child, you could help delay the onset and progression of myopia.

Encourage outdoor play. Studies show that an average of 2-3 hours/ day outdoor time for younger children may protect the child against myopia.

Reduce time spent on near work. Limit unnecessary near work such as playing hand-held, hand phone or computer games. Get them to take breaks after continuous near work.

What our children's observe is what they will most probably grow up to become :)

A parent that is always using computer and digital devices, are they setting a good example for their young ones?

The answer is maybe.

It really depends on what you as a parent stress on when doing long hours of near work. Constantly remind them to take visual breaks of around 2 to 5 minutes for every 30 minutes spent on near work. You do not need to even look at greeneries, just make sure you observe something far!

Cultivate good eyecare habits when you are young, you will definitely reap the benefits 😍

NATURE OR NURTURE FACTORS ON MYOPIA

The fact that Myopia is rapidly rising points out that this must certainly be more of a nurture issue. If it is to be generic, the issue cannot change so drastically. Environmental factors are certainly to be largely blamed and we parents have a role to play.

The good news is that environmental factors can be moderated. As parents, we need to moderate the hours of reading, television viewing, computing and other near vision activities. Time break intervals can be set into the smart phone for Time-Out. Reading or playing with smart phone devises in a moving car or lying in bed must be strongly discouraged. No smart devises must ever be used in the dark.

We must ensure that the lights at home are adequate. LED lights are low in electrical consumption and energy can be saved this way. Reading lamps over study table must be flicker free. Encourage early completion of home work in daylight and to go to bed early.
