Sierra Leone | 5th February, 2026 | The Peace Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Amadu Bah (King Boss La) has issued a strong call to political leaders, parties, and supporters across the country to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect in the conduct of political discourse.
In a statement released by the Office of the Peace Ambassador, Alhaji Amadu Bah stated that while political differences are a natural and healthy part of any democratic system, the use of abusive, insulting, or inflammatory language for political purposes poses a serious threat to national cohesion. He warned that such conduct risks deepening divisions within society and sends negative signals to grassroots communities, who often bear the brunt of politically induced tension and unrest.
The Peace Ambassador stressed that democracy can only thrive in an environment rooted in tolerance, civility, and peaceful coexistence. According to him, political competition must not degenerate into hostility or dehumanization of opposing views.
âWe must disagree without dehumanizing one another, compete politically without creating enemies, and express our beliefs without attacking those of others,â Boss La stated.
He further urged all Sierra Leoneans, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or belief system, to respect one anotherâs choices and engage in political debate responsibly and constructively. Special emphasis was placed on the role of political leaders, whom he reminded carry significant influence through their words and actions.
Amb. Alhaji Amadu Bah noted that leaders must be mindful that their utterances can either promote calm and national unity or incite division and instability. He called on them to use their platforms to encourage tolerance, dialogue, and national cohesion, especially during periods of heightened political activity.
Reaffirming his commitment to peacebuilding, the Peace Ambassador concluded by emphasizing that Sierra Leoneâs peace and stability must always take precedence over partisan interests, adding that safeguarding national harmony remains a collective responsibility.
The statement comes at a time when political engagement across the country continues to intensify, underscoring the need for responsible communication and peaceful political participation.
