The National Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) on the 21st August 2025 commenced a pivotal three-day stakeholders’ review meeting in Makeni, focused on the critical theme of "Enhancing Responsiveness of Ambulance Services in Sierra Leone." The inaugural session was officially opened by NEMS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Songor Koedoyoma, setting a collaborative tone for the discussions. The high-level gathering saw significant representation from the Ministry of Health, including the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Dr. Philip Kargbo, and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer – Public Health, Alhaji Dr. Alie Wurie. Also present were cross-sections of District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), alongside a comprehensive contingent from NEMS itself, comprising members of its Senior Management Team (SMT), dedicated Call Center Operators, paramedics, drivers, and Referral Coordinators. A key highlight of the day was a series of insightful presentations delivered by the Operations Directorate, spearheaded by its Director of Operations, Sorie Samura, delving into current operational achievements, challenges and proposed improvements. The first day concluded successfully, laying a robust foundation for the remaining two days of strategic review and planning.
