The journey to finding good elders can seem harder and harder for many. (This is a post referencing Trevor Noah’s comments about how in Africa you seek elders for guidance and commented on this from a modern day/ diasporan perspective!) When we live in a societal construct that does not value old age, there’s rampant elder abuse, lack of resources and social security, health deterioration, and tbh lack of kindness or even embrace of the role of elder (bc some people just get old, and there is a difference no shade) what are we to make of the return to elder councils if we struggle with trust and good eldership? This also extends beyond “spiritual community”, but the role of elders in daily life practice.
