SDMI Somali Diabetes Management and Information Center

The Global Diabetes Walk can be much more than just a Walk. This year in Mogadishu, Walk organiser SDMI Somali Diabetes Management and Information Center included both a screening of 532 people, sport events with 870 people playing handball, an education session on healthy diet in their Walk, where 2,500 participated. This shows that there are no limitations in what to plan for your Walks. A big 'thank you' to SDMI for once again organising a fantastic Walk. :D

Today and 5 December 2021, two years later we have registered a number of children under the age of 10 with or born with diabetes, our registered child with type 1 diabetes are up to 67 children in Mogadishu alone, the Somali diabetes information center and SDMI diabetes, as usual, every year I flow up or make a phone call to care givers or parents while having children with type 1 diabetes, this year 4 out of 67 children living with diabetes have died which means 2.68% of these children Of those who die of the disease, 60% are not able to pay insulin injections. so the somali community should take matters into their own hands to help those who are unable to sell their children insulin.
