T2 Tip from Coach Vinnie: Don’t wait until the last second.

If you only start taking your feet out of your cycling shoes right before the dismount line, you’re already rushing.

Start earlier.Stay relaxed.Hit the line ready to run.

Small detail. Seconds saved.

With two key events happening on the 22nd of this month, the Muang Thai Triathlon and the Hyrox Bangkok, last night’s running session was specific for these. We polarized the set with a bunch of  very fast 800m repeats, followed by a steadier and longer repeat when athletes were running near their race paces. The goal here is to simulate the demands of race day, when the goal is to run efficiently at race pace and learn how to rest while doing so.

We still have another few runs that will be very specific to the demands of these two events, before we shift to some speed work in the month of April, when the heat spikes and we are better by working on speed, instead of steady state running, when the limiter won’t be heat tolerance.

With very warm water conditions, a group of 17 swimmers completed a workout filled with variety.

It started with some drills focusing on extending the stroke through the shoulders. This was followed by a set of long swims from 400m to 500m with generous sendoffs. Then, a set of 10x50m swims on 2min. Odd numbers were all out swims and the even numbers were “rest while you swim.”

Finally, there was a tough “kick finisher” set to give the legs a final thrashing.

Next week’s practice is ON.

🥇🥈🥉Medal Monday🏊‍♂️🚴🏃‍♂️

Last weekend we had two athletes who participated in lower priority races as specific training for bigger goals to come. We believe that there is no better training than racing given the training load during that week is kept relatively high.

T1 tip from Coach Vinnie: don’t rush your cycling shoes. The bike leg starts when you’re rolling — not when you’re fumbling with your shoes.

Get moving first, then settle in and strap up properly.

Last night we had a typical vo2max session (Zone 5) with a 1:1 work:rest ratio. This means athletes were running 400m repeats very fast but resting nearly the same amount which provides a full recovery and allows another high intensity, high quality repeat.

This is beneficial to develop speed and economy at race pace in biomechanical terms, as well as spikes in lactate production, which despite being very painful for the athletes can be quite a specific race day scenario.

Next week we will mix this type of work with a steadier and longer repeat (zone 3 speed) which is very efficient and specific for triathlons, half marathons and hyrox runners. See you then.

Last night was another VO2 max workout. An intimate group of 13 swimmers pushed themselves to get through this challenging workout. For most swimmers, there was no more than 10s rest between each repeat. Everyone put in a great effort.

Next week’s practice is ON!
