Science is finally getting more in depth on the studies around women’s health. What we’re learning is debunking some of the biased studies of the past. Let’s put these misconceptions about women’s health to rest, shall we?
1. Your metabolism did not plummet once you entered your 30’s, love. Studies have shown that maintaining muscle mass is actually the main factor in maintaining and losing weight. We honor bodies in all forms here, but if you are wanting to slim down, your age is not the thing holding you back.
2. And no, you will not bulk up and look manly if you lift weights. If you were born female, unless you take special supplements or eat a specific diet, you don’t have the level of testosterone needed to get bulky muscles like someone born male.
3. Women need more sleep. Past studies proclaiming 6-8 hours did not take into account hormonal fluctuations or pregnancy (like hello, you’re literally growing a human inside you. That’s exhausting on the body). Add in modern corporate roles and working, sheesh. Also, because women engage in more complex mental tasks that require more recovery, add about 30 minutes to 2 hours of sleep for yourself.
