📢SOUND ON!📢
For this incredible conversation.

Context: Our elephant family just walked past a few cows grazing in the grassland.

Since our elephants don't like cows and are used to eating in that area, they seem to be annoyed and worried. Mae Lou even mock-charged one of them to protect her herd.

They assembled around Chi and baby Bai Boua and started a long conversation.

We can hear almost all the sounds elephants use to communicate:
- Trumpet to alert of an immediate danger.
- Blowing air strongly on the ground as a sign of frustration and annoyance.
- Little cries to share information.
- Deep cry of Bai Boua showing stress and fear.
- Rumbles to reassure the family after realizing there was no actual danger.

You can also hear Chi talking to them all along to calm and reassure them.

Additionally you can see Buatong, worried, keeping an eye on the mahouts walking around. At 1 min she even walked backwards when a mahout tried to put a mud bandage on a cut she had on her leg. She informed him it was clearly not the time for that.

Our elephant family communicates a lot with sounds, touch or smell.
But this is a rare event to see them agitated like that because there's not usually any threat at home.

We hope they'll realize cows and buffaloes are peaceful too.

There is really not much to say when we look at our baby girl Bai Boua playing in the sand. She just puts a huge smile on our faces and makes everyone happy. ☺️😄🥰🐘

🌱Our girls in the bamboo forest 🌱

These giants eat grass, leaves, fruits, roots, bark and soil.
They use their molars to break down the fibers and their specific digestive system helps extract about 40% of the nutrients. Which is why they have to eat so much, 16 to 18 hours a day for at least 200/300kg for an adult.

Watching our elephant family living together, taking care of each other, communicating, cuddling, protecting, playing... is so much more that what we anticipated.

When we moved last October, our goal was to keep helping elephants retiring from work to get a more descent life in their natural habitat, free of constraints.
We brought strangers together not knowing if they'll get along.
But these three found each other and created this amazing family.

We couldn't be happier.
