Cataracts are a part of the aging process, but they do not have to interfere with your life style.

A cataract is a cloudiness of the crystalline lens inside your eye. As your lens gets cloudier, your vision will gradually become more blurred.

The human eye may best be compared to a camera. When you take a picture, the lens in the front of the camera allows light through and focuses that light on the film. When the light hits the film, a picture is taken. The eye works in much the same way. The lens of your eye is clear, and allows light to pass through. Light is focused by your cornea and lens onto a thin layer of tissue, called the retina. Your retina works like the film in a camera. When the focused light hits the retina, a picture is taken, and sent to your brain. While a dirty camera lens blurs a picture, any significant cataract in your lens will blur what you see.

Shocking!! "27 contact lens" lost in the eye.

Patients with a contact lens lost in the eye are not a rare occurrence for ophthalmologists. However, 27 lenses at the same time may be another story!

The case of a 67-year-old female who had 27 disposable contacts in her right eye discovered just prior to cataract surgery was recently published in the BMJ. The patient had not complained about any severe eye discomfort.
Seventeen of the lenses formed together in a blue mass, which Dr. Richard Crombie, a consultant anesthetist at the Solihull Hospital, United Kingdom, discovered while he was preparing the eye for surgery. The other 10 lenses were found during an additional examination.

Vision Screenings Are Not Eye Exams!!

Vision screenings are not comprehensive eye exams. Screenings usually take only a few minutes and are often performed by volunteers who are not eye care professionals.

In many cases, vision screenings are nothing more than a visual acuity test where you're asked to identify the smallest letters you can on a vision chart across the room.

Eye doctor administering an eye exam to a patient.
After a comprehensive exam, your eye doctor will discuss the findings and offer treatment options best suited to your needs.
Vision screenings typically are designed to only detect subnormal visual acuity and major vision problems — as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. They generally are ineffective for detecting more subtle vision problems and potentially sight-robbing eye diseases.

People who fail a vision screening (usually because their visual acuity is worse than 20/40) are made aware of this and are encouraged to visit an eye doctor so they can have their vision problem professionally diagnosed and treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, medicine or surgery.

Eye exams, on the other hand, are performed by licensed eye doctors (an optometrist or ophthalmologist) and evaluate not only your visual acuity, but also the complete health of your eyes, from front to back — including checking for early signs of serious eye problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and detached retina.

Your eye doctor also can detect early signs of serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and risk of stroke, based on the appearance of delicate blood vessels and other structures within the eye.

"You have changed my life!" She told us,

The lens replacement operation that aimed to free her vision from reading glasses was done at the end of june. Great result. Now she can read and work on computer without the need of reading glasses.

We feel grateful to Mrs. Tracey (from Bedfordshire, England, live in Phuket for many years) for having confident in us!
