A pacemaker is a device that supports the heart when its electrical conduction system does not function adequately, helping regulate the heart rhythm. It is one of the most advanced treatments used in heart failure; this method is called CRT, or cardiac resynchronization therapy. By enabling the right and left chambers of the heart to contract simultaneously, it improves the heart’s pumping function and is considered one of the final steps before a heart transplant.
With advancing technology, new-generation pacemakers can also treat rhythm disorders. When necessary, they can deliver internal shocks or use special algorithms to restore normal rhythm, supporting the heart’s natural functioning.
