Any language learning will require remembering new words, so is Russian, too.
⠀
Here are some tips for you to memorize the new Russian words effectively:
⠀
👉🏻 Watch and listen as much as you can.
That will help you to perceive the new word in a specific context which will make you remember them better.
⠀
👉🏻 Try to make associations with the new words.
Imagining what a specific word looks like or what it reminds you of is a very powerful tool!

👉🏻 Write down the new words.
When we write something down we always remember it much better.
⠀
👉🏻 Try to rhyme the new words.
No wonder the children learn a lot with verses, so try to find your own rhymes to the new Russian words come across.

👉🏻 Try to sing the new words.
This is similar to the previous point, it just depends on your taste: do you like poems or singing more? Or both?
⠀
👉🏻 "Dance" the new words, use gestures and movements.
By dancing and moving for that specific word you again are connecting it to some emotion, association, and that help you to memorize the words.

👉🏻 Think of the situations with the new words.
Try to make even more connections by thinking of in what specific contexts you would be able to use those words.

👉🏻 Make short stories.
Try to create your own stories where the new Rissian words would appear often.

👉🏻 Modify your own stories then!
Yes, that will help you not only to remember the words but repeat and practice them!

👉🏻 "Draw" the new words, or at least use pictures.
Don't forget about the power of visualization! Put your own drawings or pictures of the Russian words all around to get yourself an extra reminder and make your brain work to learn.

Родительный падеж

The Russian Genitive case is usually used to express belonging.
⠀
However, let's look not only at that meaning but its other functions:
⠀
1️⃣ subject of possession (one who has something): дом ОТЦА (DAD'S house)
⠀
2️⃣ in a phrase "у кого есть что" type: у НЕЁ есть машина (SHE has a car)
⠀
3️⃣ object in negation (after the word "нет"): у НЕГО нет высшего образования (HE has no higher education)
⠀
4️⃣ the amount of something: стакан ВОДЫ (a glass of WATER)
⠀
5️⃣ dates (if we ask "when?" "what date?"): пятОГО мая (on the 5th of May)
BUT! КАКОЕ сегодня число? – ПятОЕ мая (WHAT is the day today? - It's 5th of May)

6️⃣ characteristics: учебник РУССКОГО ЯЗЫКА (a textbook of THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE)

7️⃣ with prepositions:
- addressee: книга ДЛЯ ДЕТЕЙ (a book FOR CHILDREN)
- spatial contexts: далеко ОТ ДОМА (far FROM HOME)
- time: ВО ВРЕМЯ УРОКА (DURING THE LESSON)
- reason: ИЗ-ЗА ДОЖДЯ (DUE TO RAIN)
- purpose: РАДИ УЧЁБЫ (FOR STUDY)
- condition: В случае ПРОВАЛА (IN case OF FAILURE)

Here are some idioms with the word "родной":

👉🏻 Ближний сосед лучше дальней родни [blízhnii sas'ét lúchshe dál'nei radní] - "the nearest neighbor is better than distant relatives" (having a good neighbor is much better than distant relatives because if something happens, it is the neighbor who will come to the rescue, while distant relatives usually live far away and therefore will not be able to help much).

👉🏻 Брат братом, сват сватом, а денежки не родня [brát brátam svát svátam a d'énishki ni radn'á] - means relationships is one thing while business and money is the other.
⠀
👉🏻 В родню толст, да не в родню прост [vradn'ú olst da ni vradn'ú post] - "he is fat as relatives, but not simple as relatives" (in the same family can be very different personalities).

👉🏻 Лучше нет дружка, чем родная матушка [lúschi n'ét drushká chém radnáya mátushka] - "there is no better friend than dear mother" (mom is the only person you can trust everything, mom will always support you, will not betray your secrets and will always be on your side).

👉🏻 Нашему забору двоюродный плетень [náshimu zabóru dvayúradnii plit'én'] - "a cousin wattle to our fence" (it's said so about a very distant relationship, a distant relative).

Is Russia Europe or Asia?

If you look at it geographically, 77% of the Russian territory belongs to Asia. This is the majority of the country. So, are we Asians? Maybe.
⠀
At the same time, another 23% (almost a quarter!) belongs to Europe. Are we Europeans then? Maybe, too.
⠀
MY OPINION: I would look at the Russian mentality rather than geography.
⠀
I see and feel that most of the parts of the Russian culture are more related to the Asian culture (working conditions, family relationships, etc), so I would think we are more Asians than Europeans.

BUT
⠀
The beauty is not to be absolute! Our charm is that we are a mixture!

Interjections are very often used in Russian, especially in dialogues, since they represent a group of words that serve for the expression of emotional reactions to reality. All those words like ouch! wow! damn! oh! huh? - BUT in Russian 😊🇷🇺

The examples of the Russian interjections can be: ого, ох, ой, ух, фу, фи, ага, ах, апчхи, батюшки, браво, господи, ишь ты, боже ж ты мой, о чёрт, ни ф**а себе and others.

Interjections serve three sectors of speech:
⠀
👉🏻 emotional assessments
⠀
👉🏻 expressions of will
⠀
👉🏻 etiquette
⠀
Russian interjections:
⠀
✅ have no morphological features (a word feature, with the help of which it can be attributed to one or another category)
⠀
✅ do not change
⠀
✅ express (do not name!) emotions and feelings
⠀
✅ have no grammatical connection with other words in the sentence
⠀
✅ usually refer to oral speech, so the meaning of interjections often becomes clear only in combination with a certain intonation, gestures, or facial expressions

You often ask me how long it takes to learn the Russian language.
⠀
There is no one simple answer because it depends on many different factors, for example, your mother tongue, how exactly you study, etc.
⠀
The Foreign Service Institute of the United States has approximately named 1100 hours to get fluency in Russian.
⠀
But I will give you another piece of advice.
⠀
Don't focus on the number of hours! Don't focus on "how long".
⠀
Focus on HOW YOU DISTRIBUTE YOUR STUDY TIME.
⠀
You will learn more effectively by investing less of your time for more frequent small assessments! So study WISELY and distribute your learning into small pieces so you can study as often as possible!
