Move.Voice

Move.Voice FreedomDance, Ecstatic Dance, Free Dance and Movement & Meditation

There are some activities (eating, sleeping...) A practice which is in constant flux.

move.voice: our regular sessions are open to everyone, experienced movers or not; we explore a great deal, working with release-based movement principles, improvisation, free-voice & moving images; we also give deep yoga classes and run various workshops which are unavoidable, and others which are avoidable but really shouldn't be because they're integral to a full and happy life, and high amongst

these is dance...

At whatever age, in whatever culture, our bodies are made to move, and to move freely with creativity and invention. We don’t have to be tied to the movements of a particular job, lifestyle, sport, or whatever; and when it comes to dance, we don’t have to be tied to a particular style of dance. We can be free to dance as we like, in the moment, with the music, with whomever else is dancing in the space, with our inner selves in all our moods and emotions, with whatever joys and obstacles we may be living through. We can improvise, explore, discover, express, release, let ourselves go. Dance, as a shifting metaphor for our being, is the very pulse of life in its different forms - a pulse moving between gentle and spiritual to expressive and ecstatic. Ours is an open form of Movement & Meditation practice, open to everyone wishing to explore inner and outer movement together with others. There’s an open and flexible structure, usually based around music, which I call the Wave (thanks to Gabrielle Roth), which like the constantly changing and evolving cycle of life itself, encourages the dancer to move from gentle to vigorous movement and on to a rejuvenated state of being, with the inspiration and support of music and themes which are usually different from session to session. A dance which is different each time, and is always a personal journey while being open to and connected with the others around you. A dance practice where purely-technical aspects of dance are left aside so that we can focus on the essence and deep principles of dance, on the dance which comes from inside our bodies and from inside our souls. A practice which is always the individual’s while deepening connections within the group. A practice without any judgement at all. Where you are not forced to move more than you wish to, it’s up to you. We hope to encourage and enable you to expand how you can move and to go deeper into movement and meditation. Where energy and inspiration can be sustained not consumed. Where we can move freely in and out of ecstatic movement. The practice works with you as you are, as far as you're willing to let go and enter into it. You are free to take your time or throw yourself in. It encourages opening and generosity of spirit and is great fun while being deeply transformative. For me, it’s a perfect complement to all the stresses and strains of modern life, as well as being a perfect complement to practices like yoga and tai-chi as we come to movement and meditation from a quite different perspective. our classes, workshops, events & hikes 13-20.4.26

Tasha’s exhibition ’Traffic’ opened at the Barın Han contemporary art gallery (Boyacı Ahmet Sokak No:4, Binbirdirek Mahallesi, Çemberlitaş, close to the Çemberlitaş stop (the stop after Sultanahmet) on the T1 tram line and a short walk from the Vezneciler stop on the M2 metro line) last week. Free entry. Open 10am-6pm every day. There are 2 other exhibitions running at Barın Han at the same time. Tasha’s is on the top floor. Her boldly coloured paintings are rich in zoomorphic depth. The exhibition runs to April 26th.

Classes: Please check in with us before turning up for the classes and sessions below as we may move them according to what works best for the people who wish to come. We mostly work with small groups and try to give classes that work for all levels (feel free to say if you prefer a beginner’s class or a more advanced one or you’d like us to focus on a certain group of poses). Please let us know what works best for you; we'll try to accommodate. If you’re away from Istanbul, Tasha gives online classes by arrangement. If you pay for 5 classes in advance, the sixth one is free.

Workshops: Tasha’s visual art workshops and Nick's workshops and voice, and performative dance and theatre classes are mostly by request, please ask if interested.

Performers (Nick): I'm open to working (as director, writer or performer) with performers (dancers, actors, singers, performance artists, musicians, poets…) on dance-theatre, music and voice projects. Depending on the project, I'm happy to work without finance but commitment is essential. If interested, please get in touch. I’m happy to work in Turkish or English as well as other languages. Performance projects can be for solo performers or for performances involving more than one performer. My work aspires to be challenging and radical for both the performers and audiences.

Dear All,

Exhibition: We’re very happy to say that Tasha will hold her first major exhibition. The exhibition lasts for one month and the opening is on Thursday this week. The exhibition is at the Barın Han contemporary art gallery, Boyacı Ahmet Sokak No:4, Binbirdirek Mahallesi, Çemberlitaş, close to the Çemberlitaş stop (the stop after Sultanahmet) on the T1 tram line and a short walk from the Vezneciler stop on the M2 metro line. Free entry. Open 10am-6pm every day. There are 2 other exhibitions running at Barın Han at the same time. Tasha’s is on the top floor. Information below. Please feel free to share with any visual arts inclined friends.

Hikes: At the moment, the weather is too wet over the coming weekend to hike so we plan yin-yang classes on both Saturday and Sunday.

Classes: Please check in with us before turning up for the classes and sessions below as we may move them according to what works best for the people who wish to come. Singer-songwriter and voice teacher Kasia Aynur writes folk songs that evoke reverence for the land and the creatures she’s walked it with. Her name reflects her Polish and Anatolian roots, though she lived most of her life in San Francisco, California before moving to İstanbul in 2018. Since 2012, she has performed and released music, sometimes under the pseudonyms Chicken Mama and Kasia Moon. Her Vocal Playshops braid together the work of soothing the mind, tending the heart, and creating beauty with song. Sessions include instruction in vocal technique, playful improvisation exercises, and simple songs enjoyable for singing in groups.

with Gürkan Tekin

Please check in with us before turning up for the classes and sessions below as we may move them according to what works best for the people who wish to come.

Tasha’s visual art workshops and Nick's workshops and voice, and performative dance and theatre classes are mostly by request, please ask if interested.

If you pay for 5 classes in advance, the sixth one is free.

Our regular sessions are open to everyone, experienced movers or not. We explore a great deal, working with release-based movement principles, improvisation & images. We work with ideas including conscious movement, movement & meditation, moving mindfully, ecstatic dance, contemporary dance, free-voicework, living theatre, deep yoga and free improvisation. There are some activities (eating, sleeping...) which are unavoidable, and others which are avoidable but really shouldn't be because they're integral to a full and happy life, and high amongst these are dance and voice. And, similarly, our voices are made to express the full palette of human emotions, feelings and the deepest movements of our souls. Ours is an open form of Movement & Meditation practice, open to everyone wishing to explore inner and outer movement together with others. A practice which is in constant flux.
