1. Why is caffeine restricted after rhinoplasty?
➣ Increases blood pressure & heart rate
Caffeine can raise blood pressure, which may increase the risk of post-surgical bleeding or swelling.
➣ Can worsen swelling & bruising
Because caffeine affects blood vessels, it may delay the healing process and prolong swelling.
➣ Interferes with sleep
Good rest is essential for recovery, but caffeine may cause restlessness, insomnia, or poor sleep, slowing down healing.
➣ Causes dehydration
Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, which can lead to dehydration. Hydration is critical for proper recovery and skin healing.
2. How long should you wait before drinking caffeine again?
➣ First 1–2 weeks (critical phase):
Avoid caffeine completely to minimize bleeding, swelling, and sleep disturbance.
➣ After 2 weeks:
Many doctors allow patients to reintroduce caffeine in moderation ( one small cup of coffee).
➣ Full recovery (4–6 weeks):
By this stage, most patients can return to their normal caffeine habits — but always confirm with your surgeon.
✨ Final Note:
Every patient’s recovery is unique. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions, as they may adjust the no-caffeine period depending on your health and healing progress.
