World Obesity Day

Obesity is not simply about body weight — it is a significant medical risk factor linked to 13 different cancers.

Among the most strongly associated are:
• Breast cancer
• Colon cancer
• Uterine (endometrial) cancer

Excess body fat affects hormone levels, chronic inflammation, and metabolic pathways, all of which can increase cancer risk.

The encouraging news is that effective prevention strategies are well established:

• Healthy, balanced nutrition
• At least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week
• Reducing prolonged sitting and increasing daily movement

Lifestyle changes are powerful medicine. Improving diet, moving regularly, and limiting sedentary time can significantly reduce the risk of obesity-related disease.

Obesity prevention is also cancer prevention, diabetes prevention, and heart disease prevention.

INHALER AND SPACER USE
Proper inhaler technique directly impacts how well your medication works, especially during periods of increased wheezing triggered by environmental factors like the current Saharan dust affecting Trinidad and Tobago.

This medication is commonly prescribed to relieve wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.

Device components:
• Medication canister
• Plastic actuator (inhaler body)
• Spacer chamber
• One-way valve with mouthpiece or face mask

How to use your inhaler with a spacer:
1️⃣ Shake the inhaler well before each puff.
2️⃣ Insert the inhaler into the back of the spacer.
3️⃣ Exhale fully away from the device.
4️⃣ Seal your lips tightly around the mouthpiece (or place the mask securely).
5️⃣ Press the canister once.
6️⃣ Inhale slowly and deeply over 3–5 seconds.
7️⃣ Hold your breath for 10 seconds, then exhale gently.
8️⃣ If a second puff is prescribed, wait 30–60 seconds and repeat.

Using a spacer reduces coordination errors, improves medication delivery to the lungs, and helps minimize side effects — ensuring better relief when you need it most.

Belly pain can actually be a sign of wheeze.

When your airways tighten, your body uses the abdominal muscles to help you breathe. That extra effort can show up as stomach pain.

In both adults and children, wheeze isn’t always dramatic. It can look like:
• Chest tightness
• Night cough
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Belly pain

If you’re prone to asthma or reactive airways, Sahara dust can push you into flare up quickly.

Before you think it's a stomach bug or gas alone, get a medical check up to get answers.

I’ll be posting another video demonstrating exactly how to use an inhaler and spacer properly — because technique matters for adequate treatment.

LOTA!! as it's called in Trinidad and the Caribbean is seen often on the skin of locals. Some may call it their "normal skin" or say it has been like that since they could remember. This rash however is caused by a fungus and is TREATABLE! Look up Tinea Versicolor if you don't believe me 😉 or call 🤙
