What becomes routine to my hands is never routine to the heart sitting across from me. There is fear in their eyes, hope in their voice, and a quiet surrender as they place their trust in me. It’s a responsibility that humbles me more with every passing year.
Beyond the microscopes, the machines, and the precision, there is something deeper—human connection, vulnerability, and trust. Each patient reminds me that this work is not just about restoring vision, but about holding space for someone in one of their most fragile moments.
It has taught me to slow down, to listen more intently, to reassure more gently, and to never lose sight of the weight of what I do. Because while it may be one of many surgeries in my day, for them, it is everything.
That perspective has changed me—not just as a surgeon, but as a person.
It is a privilege I never take for granted… to be trusted, to serve, and to play even a small role in helping someone see their world clearly again 💜
