A recent lab study found that stevia when fermented with a certain bacterial strain called Lactobacillus plantarum SN13T becomes much more effective at killing pancreatic cancer cells than regular stevia extract. Researchers made a fermented version of stevia leaf extract and tested it against cancerous pancreatic cells and healthy human kidney cells. The fermented stevia destroyed cancer cells, prevented them from multiplying or spreading, but left healthy cells mostly unhurt.

They discovered that fermentation converts one of the stevia compounds into something called chlorogenic acid methyl ester (CAME) which appears especially powerful in triggering cancer cells to undergo apoptosis – that means programmed cell death. The extract also stopped cancer cells from moving or forming new colonies. All of this was done in lab dishes so it is early stage work.

Despite being exciting stevia’s promise as a natural therapy needs much more testing before any human use. Next steps include testing in live animals to see safety, how much is needed, how it distributes in body and whether it really works outside the lab. While the study offers a hopeful new angle in cancer research it is not proof that eating stevia or using stevia supplements will treat pancreatic cancer.

Moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was associated with a twofold higher risk for cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) over an 8-year follow-up than not having OSA in middle-aged and older adults, even after accounting for APOE-ε4 genetic status, a population-based, prospective cohort study showed. http://ms.spr.ly/6181tyPox

Health agencies around the world are raising alerts as respiratory viruses like COVID-19, influenza, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) show a significant resurgence. Hospitals in the U.S., Europe, and Asia have reported a sharp increase in infections, particularly among children and the elderly.
Experts attribute this rise to waning immunity, climate changes, and the return of pre-pandemic social behaviors. With colder months approaching, indoor gatherings and travel have also accelerated virus spread.
Scientists urge people to stay updated with vaccines, maintain good hygiene, and wear masks in crowded indoor spaces. They also stress that while the viruses are evolving, modern medicine is better equipped than ever to handle outbreaks.
This surge is a reminder that pandemics don’t truly “end” — they evolve, just as humanity must. Our best defense remains science, awareness, and compassion.

Mayo Clinic researchers have developed a pioneering method to mend damaged hearts without open-heart surgery, an advance that could one day transform the treatment of heart failure.

The new approach uses lab-grown heart tissue made from reprogrammed adult stem cells, delivered through a tiny incision rather than a surgically opened chest cavity. In preclinical testing, the stem cell patch restored heart function and improved healing.

Scientists have achieved a groundbreaking milestone by using genetically modified microbes to target and shrink tumours. These specially engineered microbes are designed to seek out cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue, offering a precision approach that could revolutionise cancer treatment.

In laboratory studies, the microbes successfully infiltrated tumours, releasing therapeutic compounds that slowed growth and, in some cases, reduced tumour size significantly. This approach represents a new frontier in oncology, combining synthetic biology with medicine to create targeted, effective therapies.

Experts believe this method could pave the way for treatments with fewer side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy and radiation. While still in early stages, clinical trials are being planned to explore safety and effectiveness in humans.

This discovery underscores the incredible potential of biotechnology to transform medicine and offers hope for millions affected by cancer worldwide. The era of living medicines may be closer than we ever imagined.
