Artesans ResQ EU

Artesans ResQ EU NGO (non-governmental organization) that transport critical patients of all ages from any point in Ukraine and provide critical care transfer trainings.

Artesans-ResQ has been active in Ukraine for two years now and specialises in the intensive care transport of injured and sick people. The project covers three main areas:
• Coordinative support
• Transportmission
• Trainingsmission
In this project, we are collaborating with the WHO, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and the European Commission.Artesans-ResQ provides its own intensive care transport capacities. Regular outpatient clinics and large-capacity intensive care transporters in the form of buses are used, which can transport up to five ventilated patients at the same time. Our vehicles are in use around the clock and have already transferred 350 patients over a total distance of around 38,000 km this year. We are called to the most complex medical cases.

75% of her body surface area is covered with burns. Every minute counts.

This happened on January 2 in Kyiv. A 16-year-old girl suffered numerous burns after falling into a pit of hot water.

At Kyiv City Children's Clinical Hospital №1 condition was stabilized, she was connected to a ventilator, and initial wound treatment and anti-shock measures were performed. That same evening, consultations began with children's burn centers in Germany and Switzerland, and an international medical evacuation was initiated within Medevac Ukraine.

On the morning of January 3, the clinic in Cologne confirmed its readiness to accept the patient, and the Artesans-ResQ Ukraine team, together with the Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, began preparations for transportation.

On January 4, at 4:45 a.m., the ambulance left Kyiv, and at 2:00 p.m., the girl was already waiting for the plane in Rzeszów. At around 6:00 p.m., the patient was delivered to Cologne in critical but stable condition and is being prepared for surgery.

Each stage of this complex case was made possible thanks to the dedication and professionalism of the large Artesans-ResQ Ukraine team, as well as the support of our partners:

Kyiv City Children's Clinical Hospital №1

ДЗ "УНПЦ ЕМД та МК МОЗ України"

Міністерство охорони здоров'я України

EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid

World Health Organization Ukraine

Our joint efforts helped ensure continuous medical monitoring and medication support throughout the entire route.

In the first days after a serious injury, every hour counts.
The team’s decisions during this short window of time can determine whether a patient survives as well as the duration and extent of the patient’s recovery.

In less than a week, we implemented a complex, multi-stage process of targeted medical evacuation for four patients with severe burns and inhalation injuries who were in Kharkiv.

In the shortest possible time, our teams:
• transported three patients along the route Kharkiv → Kyiv → Vinnytsia — directly to a specialized burn center;
• transported one patient along the route Kharkiv → Kyiv.

In parallel with stabilization and treatment, we were already preparing for the next stage. After the necessary interventions were performed in Ukraine to stabilize the patients, all four were combined into a single logistics chain and transferred to air ambulances outside of Ukraine for international medical evacuation and continued specialized treatment abroad.

The second stage required separate decisions and resources.
Three patients were transported simultaneously in one specialized ambulance bus, and another patient was transported in a separate ambulance. Throughout the entire route, the patients were under constant medical supervision and received the necessary respiratory and medication support.

This was not just a journey of thousands of kilometers.
For these people, it was their only chance in the first critical days to quickly get to a place where the necessary expertise and experience were available.

We sincerely thank the doctors at the stabilization points and Ukrainian hospitals, the team at the burn center in Vinnytsia, the partners of the Medevac program, the Ukrainian National Medical Center and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Cherkasy and Lviv centers of the International Medical Center, as well as the medics, drivers, and coordinators who ensured the continuity of each stage.

This is how targeted medical evacuation works when every hour counts.

The Artesans-ResQ Ukraine team received an ambulance from the United Kingdom.

On December 13, our fleet was expanded with another ambulance equipped with the BabyPod system, which allows for the safe transport of infants in serious condition.

Along with the vehicle, we received important equipment and consumables that are used daily during evacuations and inter-hospital transfers.

First and foremost, we would like to thank for their support and donation — it is thanks to you that this ambulance is now ready to save lives.

We are sincerely grateful to Christian Thwaites for his involvement, coordination, and assistance in making this happen.

Artesans-ResQ Ukraine Semi-Annual Report 2025

The first half of 2025 was a period of intense operations and growth for Artesans-ResQ Ukraine. Despite our lean team — 15 staff and 40+ volunteers — we carried out 120–180 critical-care transport missions per month, ensuring vulnerable patients reach specialized, safe medical facilities.

Highlights from this half-year:
• 700+ critically ill patients transported
• 400,000+ km covered — roughly 10 trips around the Earth
• 90+ medical professionals trained to strengthen CCT across Ukraine
• Expanded pediatric and neonatal transport capabilities
• Majority of the budget directed straight to field operations
• Strengthened partnerships with WHO, Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Médecins Sans Frontières, CDM and dozens of regional partners

We continue not only to respond to urgent wartime needs but also to shape a national standard for critical-care transport. Our training programs lay the foundation for a resilient, professional emergency medical system.

This weekend, Artesans-ResQ Ukraine held a training course in Volyn for those medical professionals who undertake challenging evacuations every single day. We aimed to improve the readiness of their medical teams so they could more easily handle critical patients on the road, when any change in their condition can be critical.

In particular, we focused on critical skills like:

- Systematic and swift examination of critical patients on pickup.
- Reaction to threatening changes in patient condition before transport.
- Recognition of various anatomical and physiological conditions, and how they affect patient survival in transport.
- Basic and advanced airway management techniques.
- Control of massive bleeding and unresolved polytrauma.
- Protocols to prepare patients for transport.
- Medication support for transport, including sedation, vasopressors, etc.
- Handoff of the patient to ensure the receiving hospital gets all pertinent knowledge of the patient.

Once we taught these skills, we moved into simulated scenarios, randomized using various medical technology suites to ensure the instructors can change simulated patient condition at the drop of a hat, and adapt to the treatment taking place.

This is especially critical because of the conditions us and our students operate in, and the complexity and severity of some of our patients. It is important to train these skills, but it is even more important to drill yourself under stress to perform them as well.

We thank the course participants for their involvement, teamwork and motivation to improve. We also thank our incredible instructors, who strive daily to improve the quality of medical care our nation's medical professionals can provide.

December 5 — International Volunteer Day

The volunteers of Artesans-ResQ Ukraine are people who choose to help others every single day, even when it isn’t easy. You stand beside us in the hardest moments, provide support where it’s critical, and give a chance at life to those who need it most.

Our team received an award for dedication and contribution to the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine — and this is your shared achievement. Shoulder to shoulder, we continue to rescue and transport the most critical patients.

Thank you for your kindness, strength, and determination. You are part of the great changes happening every day.

The Artesans-ResQ Ukraine team completed 30 medical evacuations:

◼️ 1 neonatal transport
◼️ 5 pediatric transfers
◼️ 6 long transfers (over 500 km)
Among them — a route to Finland, which became our longest transfer to date.

We are grateful to our team for their coordinated, resilient, and professional work every day.

A special thank you goes to everyone who supports us and enables us to do more — these missions are possible because of you.

Artesans-ResQ Ukraine saves lives every day, transporting the most seriously ill patients across the country, including infants, war victims, and anyone else who requires specialized transportation.

In recent months, there have been so many transfer requests that our ambulances and teams have been working nonstop. A single patient transfer within Ukraine often covers 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers, and international transfers frequently exceed 5,000 kilometers. In addition, complex evacuations, back-to-back or parallel transfer requests, and wartime realities keep our ambulances on the road for extended periods — meaning that we sometimes cannot respond to critical calls simply because no ambulances are available. For patients in serious condition, waiting is dangerous.

That is why we are reaching out to anyone who can support us.
We urgently need an additional ambulance that we can prepare and put on the line to save lives.

You can support us in several ways:
– share relevant contacts or partnerships,
– send us information if you know someone looking to donate a serviceable ambulance or ambulance equipment,
– or make a financial contribution to allow us to purchase and prepare a vehicle.

Every step you take makes a difference.
Every contribution, every repost, every connection — increases the chance that the next patient receives lifesaving help in time.
