Waking up several times at night to urinate, weak urine flow, feeling like your bladder never empties?
Many men dismiss these signs, but they often point to prostate enlargement. Get checked early. Treatment is easier when the problem is caught early. The Urology Clinic at Kyabirwa Surgical Center is open every Tuesday & Wednesday.

At the 5th AGM/Symposium of the Society of Uganda Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Dr Joseph Damoi explained that Global Surgical Initiatives/ Kyabirwa Surgical Centre has introduced one of Uganda’s first microwave ablation systems, positioning the facility to manage selected liver tumours using minimally invasive techniques.

He noted that microwave ablation uses controlled electromagnetic energy to heat and destroy tumour tissue, particularly lesions up to 3–5 cm. Dr Damoi emphasised that global trials now show comparable survival outcomes between ablation and surgical resection for small tumours, but with fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times.

He highlighted that KSC is still in their early stage of experience with microwave ablation, with less than 10 patients treated so far, adding that the method is especially valuable for patients who cannot undergo major surgery or those under surveillance for recurrent disease. cc The Mount Sinai Hospital Busoga Health Forum American Heart Association Ministry of Health- Uganda

Earlier today, we were on talking about the upcoming colonoscopy consultation week at Kyabirwa Surgical Centre, Monday 17th - Friday, 21st November 2025.

Most people fear the word “colonoscopy” without even knowing what it is.
It’s simply a safe camera test doctors use to check for hidden problems in your colon.
Takes 30–45 minutes. You are sedated, so there's no pain.

This test can save your life long before symptoms get worse.
It's only Ugx 50,000 for both the consultation and procedure.
Call 0771 968399 for inquiries.

Doctors in Uganda no longer need to fly abroad for Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Certification. Now, they can train, test, and earn international accreditation right here at home. At the Kyabirwa Simulation Centre, healthcare teams are practising real Surgical Skills and Life Support on high-fidelity simulators before working on patients. So far, we have seen great results: 41 doctors have been trained and 39 have tested in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills.

We also have 4 GSI-KSC staff members who are ACLS/BLS instructors accredited by the American Heart Association. They've trained another 6 staff members as ACLS/BLS Providers.

Nurses, anaesthesia providers, and gynaecology teams are all utilising simulation.

This isn't some "future potential", this is a proven model that's already enhancing surgical outcomes and saving lives. If you care about patient safety, healthcare quality, or medical innovation in Africa, then I believe this is something worth paying attention to.

Kyabirwa Surgical Center (KSC) has built a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is transforming how doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals learn and practice. Established in early 2024 under the leadership of Global Surgical Initiatives -KSC Management, with support from Mount Sinai
