Doctors in Uganda no longer need to fly abroad for Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Certification. Now, they can train, test, and earn international accreditation right here at home. At the Kyabirwa Simulation Centre, healthcare teams are practising real Surgical Skills and Life Support on high-fidelity simulators before working on patients. So far, we have seen great results: 41 doctors have been trained and 39 have tested in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills.
We also have 4 GSI-KSC staff members who are ACLS/BLS instructors accredited by the American Heart Association. They've trained another 6 staff members as ACLS/BLS Providers.
Nurses, anaesthesia providers, and gynaecology teams are all utilising simulation.
This isn't some "future potential", this is a proven model that's already enhancing surgical outcomes and saving lives. If you care about patient safety, healthcare quality, or medical innovation in Africa, then I believe this is something worth paying attention to.
Kyabirwa Surgical Center (KSC) has built a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is transforming how doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals learn and practice. Established in early 2024 under the leadership of Global Surgical Initiatives -KSC Management, with support from Mount Sinai
