Every year on December 1st, the world pauses to remember, reflect, and recommit to the fight against HIV and AIDS.

For RHU, World AIDS Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a promise.

A promise to uphold dignity.
A promise to protect the vulnerable.
A promise to ensure that no one is left behind.

At RHU, World AIDS Day means:

📌Renewing our commitment to end AIDS as a public health threat
📌Standing with people living with HIV
📌Protecting young people using accurate, youth-friendly SRHR information and services.
📌Strengthening partnerships and communities
📌Advocating for human rights, equity, and access to SRHR services for all

“RHU joins national and global partners in reaffirming its commitment to ending all forms of violence against women and girls.

Digital platforms should be spaces that empower, uplift, and amplify the voices of women and girls, not places where violence thrives.”

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls
Theme: UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls

From cyberstalking and online harassment to manipulated images and videos, privacy breaches, and the non-consensual sharing of personal data, digital spaces have become a new frontline of abuse.

At RHU, we are working to ensure every woman and girl can navigate digital spaces safely by raising awareness, supporting survivors, strengthening online safety skills, and championing digital rights.

Violence online is violence.
We must UNiTE to end it.

“We are grateful to RHU for creating this platform. This is only the second Hoima Youth Parliament, yet its impact is already evident. By the time we reach the third or fourth event, I am confident we will see meaningful mindset shifts across our communities, in our schools, and among young people themselves.

Platforms like this equip young people to understand their SRHR issues, speak up with confidence, and hold their leaders accountable.”
— Swaibu Ngangabyaki, Hon. Speaker, Hoima District

“Today is a reminder of our shared commitment to truly work with young people, listening to their voices, valuing their leadership, and empowering them to create solutions to their own SRHR challenges. Platforms like the Hoima Youth Parliament make this possible by giving young people the space, agency, and confidence to lead the change they want to see.”

— Priscilla Nabatanzi, Project Coordinator, RHU

“We are committed to ensuring that young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights are protected, promoted, and supported with accessible services and information.

While we engage decision-makers at every level, we intentionally place young people at the forefront driving solutions to the SRHR challenges they face. That is exactly why platforms like the Hoima Youth Parliament exist.” — Kubra Katusabe, Branch Executive Committee Chairperson, RHU Hoima

Happening Now: Hoima Youth Parliament 2025
Sexuality Education & Poetry Competition
Today’s Youth Parliament is giving young people a platform to influence the future of safe and inclusive digital spaces for young people.

As technology becomes central to our lives, online harassment, cyberbullying, body shaming, and exploitation continue to threaten the rights, safety, and dignity of young people, especially girls.

We are using this space to amplify youth voices and spark action for safer digital communities.

Debate Motion: “Ending digital violence is essential to achieving gender equality.”

Through a parliamentary-style debate alongside creative poetry performances, participants are unpacking how digital violence influences gender norms, limits expression, and affects young people’s participation. Their voices are spotlighting why digital safety is key to advancing SRHR and equality.

We were honoured to witness and contribute to the launch of the OBR Strategic Plan and OBR Position Paper on Climate Change, unveiled last Friday during the Omusinga Birthday Run and the 59th Coronation Anniversary of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR).

This launch also reaffirms the strong foundation of our work in Kasese where RHU continues to integrate climate change adaptation into SRHR programming.
From flood-affected communities to hard-to-reach areas.

The partnership between RHU and the OBR is a reminder that when cultural institutions and health actors work together, communities thrive.

As the OBR embarks on implementing its Strategic Plan and Climate Change Position Paper, RHU remains committed to walking this journey side by side, building healthier, empowered, and climate-resilient communities across the Rwenzori region.
