To reduce breast cancer deaths and increase on the employability of the visually impaired in Uganda by conducting early breast cancer screening and awareness raising about breast cancer. The founder Mukose Andrew was brought up in a single parented family with a mother who was a lecturer but unfortunately the mother got a car accident and lost sight, her contract as a lecturer was terminated and it started the chaos and suffering in the family where sisters dropped out school and one of the younger sisters lost life because the family could nolonger afford the medical bills, not only the mother but over 2.3 million blind people in Uganda go through the same situations of being marginalised, looked at as dependants and stigmatised. Therefore the founder studied Medical rehabilitation of the disabled where he realised that the blind have a genius sense of touch which can enable them to palpate the breasts and early detect breast cancer. Not only that, Uganda is among the top African countries highly affected with breast cancer cases and there is a rampart increase of breast cancer cases and death rates, this is a result of having few medical experts in early breast cancer detections and preventions, having only two mammography units which are only in Kampala, women always attending to hospitals in their advanced cancer stages where most are always referred to oversea countries and 99% can not afford the treatment and transport costs, some women are not comfortable with using machines which expose there body to X- rays and radiations which are harmful to there lives . Gifted Hands Network reduces breast cancer deaths and increases on the employability of the visually impaired. We conduct early breast cancer examination, awareness raising and also create sustainable employment opportunities for the visually impaired. Visually impaired run and manage the Dinner in the Dark restaurants and are also trained to become professional tour guides to conduct commercial tours.
