Today we want to give a huge shout-out to Matt, one of our Family Recovery Court participants, who is celebrating one full year of recovery today.
Matt came to Family Recovery Court in April of 2025 as he was beginning a new chapter in his life. As he was leaving treatment, he entered a Daddy and Me program with the goal of reunifying with his two children.
From the very beginning, Matt committed himself fully to the process. He chased his recovery the same way many of us once chased our addiction, with determination, consistency, and focus. He showed up, he was honest and vulnerable, and he took the suggestions that were given to him.
Matt utilized every opportunity available to him. He engaged in programs, accepted wraparound services, and made the most of the support that was offered through Family Recovery Court ,12 step fellowship and the Serenity Sista's program .
Through that program, Matt began the reunification process with his children. What started as weekly visits slowly grew into longer visits, extended time together, and eventually overnight visits. Step by step, Matt continued to show that he was committed not only to his recovery, but to being the father his children deserve.
And as we often say in recovery, it works if you work it and Matt definitely worked it.
Because of his dedication and hard work, Matt was eventually fully reunified with his children and granted full custody of both of them. Along the way he also found employment, built stability, and most recently even purchased a brand new truck.
Matt’s journey is proof that when someone is willing to be open, take suggestions, and surround themselves with support, recovery is possible.
Today we celebrate Matt and the incredible work he has done over the past year.
Congratulations on one year of recovery, Matt and welcome to year two.
Year two won’t always be easy, but today you have something you didn’t have before: a strong support system, a foundation in recovery, and people who believe in you. Because of that, we know you’re going to keep moving forward.
We are incredibly proud of you!
