In the early 1930’s, a group of students at Loyola University School of Dentistry decided to form an organization that would merge their hardworking values, passion toward professional excellence and pride in their Italian Heritage to form the Arcolian Dental Arts Society. Named after Giovanni D’Arcoli, the fifteenth century science professor at Bologna and Padua, whose many noted chapters in medi
cal textbooks detailed the formation of dental disease, D’Arcoli is credited for being the innovator of using gold leaf to restore teeth. Over 80 years later and still going strong, the Arcolian Dental Arts remains active by promoting excellence in the form of continuing education, awarding annual scholarships to dental students and being a supportive presence in the community all while providing social opportunities for forming lasting professional relationships over dinner in some of Chicago’s most noted Italian restaurants!
