We kicked off 2026 strong at the Kohl Family YMCA on January 6, 2026!

On that day, Judge Oldfield challenged our Turning Point participants with a little friendly competition, Hustle for the Muscle! 💪
Every time a participant showed up and got moving, they earned an entry into the drawing… and tomorrow, we pick a winner!!! 🏆

But this challenge is about more than just prizes. In recovery, taking care of your mind and your body matters. Building strength, confidence, and healthy habits—one workout at a time.

Let’s keep the momentum going! 👟🏋️

Judge Oldfield is the definition of true leadership in our Turning Point Program.

With unwavering dedication, integrity, and compassion, she sets the tone for what this program stands for every single day. Her ability to hold participants accountable while still seeing their potential is what makes lasting change possible. She leads with both strength and heart, reminding everyone who walks through our doors that they are capable of more.

Because of Judge Oldfield, Turning Point is more than a program, it’s a place of growth, second chances, and real transformation.

We welcome you to witness her in action—Turning Point is every Tuesday.

We are grateful for her leadership and the impact she continues to make in so many lives.

Judge Joy Malek Oldfield has dedicated her career to justice, compassion, and meaningful service to the Summit County community. Her judicial service spans almost fifteen years, first in the Akron Municipal Court, and for the better part of the last ten years on the Summit County Common Pleas Court. A graduate of John Carroll University and The University of Akron School of Law, Judge Oldfield built a distinguished reputation as a highly respected trial attorney, practicing complex civil litigation and appellate work in courts throughout Ohio and before the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Supreme Court of the United States. Known for her exceptional courtroom skills, tireless work ethic, and deep empathy for her clients, she earned statewide recognition in her representation of those who experienced discrimination, serious injury, or profound loss.

Judge Oldfield’s commitment to helping people ultimately led her to serve the public as an elected member of the justice system. Through the last fifteen years of her judicial service, she has become a recognized leader in recovery-focused and problem-solving courts. As Presiding Judge of the Turning Point Program (Summit County’s only felony drug court), she has championed innovative programs that address addiction through a holistic approach—focusing on physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. Her initiatives, including Faith in Recovery with Love Akron, Y-STRONG wellness partnerships with the Akron Area YMCA, and the introduction of the court’s first therapy dog, “Tank”, have helped countless individuals pursue lasting recovery and rebuild their lives. Her expertise has earned national recognition, with invitations to present for organizations such as AllRise, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Bureau of Justice Assistance on topics including trauma-informed courts and treatment-based justice.

Dedicated to education, Judge Oldfield serves as the Education Chair and First Vice-President of the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association and is one of nine judges across the State of Ohio appointed by the Supreme Court to the Board of Trustees of the Judicial College, a group who advises the Ohio Supreme Court on judicial branch education. She regularly provides instruction and advice to newly elected Ohio judges.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Oldfield remains deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of legal professionals as an adjunct professor at The University of Akron School of Law, where she teaches pretrial advocacy and problem-solving courts. Her leadership and service have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Summit County ADM Board’s Dr. Robert “Bob” Smith Innovation Trailblazer Award, the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association President’s Award and one of this year’s Girls Scouts of Northeast Ohio 2026 Women of Distinction. Widely respected for her integrity, leadership, and compassion, Judge Oldfield continues to make a lasting impact on the justice system and the community she proudly serves.

🎉 Fun Fact Friday! 🎉

Turning Point has partnered with Love Akron to bring back Judge Joy Malek Oldfield’s Faith & Recovery Lunch & Learn Series!

This initiative is designed to connect participants with spiritual leaders in the community while exploring faith-based resources that support recovery and personal growth.

St. Patrick would have been proud!

Participants and staff celebrated in true Irish fashion with themed donuts, coffee, and a whole lot of positive energy while recognizing the hard work and progress happening every day in the Turning Point Program.

For sobriety awards, participants received their very own “pot of gold” (Swensons Drive-In Restaurants coins). A fun and deliciously motivating way to celebrate their continued dedication to recovery.

One of the most powerful moments of the day was seeing several Summit County Turning Point Program Alumni members attend court. It’s the perfect reminder that success in recovery takes a lot of hard work… and maybe just a little luck.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Turning Point team! 🍀🌈

Today we celebrate an incredible milestone. 🎉

Five years ago, Summit County Turning Point Program alumni, Kenny Lambert opened the doors to Just A Dad From Akron. What started as a dream built in recovery has grown into something that inspires an entire community.

Kenny is a powerful example of what is possible in recovery. His strength, dedication, and commitment to giving back continue to uplift the people around him. Recovery isn’t just part of Kenny’s story, it’s the foundation that has helped him build a life of purpose, service, and impact.

We are honored to be a small part of Kenny’s journey and incredibly proud of the man he is today.

The 5-year celebration is today from 12:00–7:00 PM! Stop by Just a Dad from Akron and help celebrate this milestone. Let’s show Kenny the same support he has shown our community.

Congratulations on five amazing years, Kenny. Your story continues to inspire us all!!!

This past Friday our Alumni Group visited the Akron Break Room and absolutely destroyed it… and we mean DESTROYED it. Plates smashed, electronics obliterated, it was chaos in the best way possible!

Today, Turning Point proudly hosted our March graduation at the beautiful JADFA House, owned and operated by our incredible alumni, Kenny Lambert and his wife, Kristi. The space is absolutely stunning and, more importantly, truly embraces everyone who walks through its doors. As a special part of the celebration, we all had the opportunity to sign the wall at the house, leaving our own mark and becoming part of its story. It was a powerful reminder that every name written represents hope.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we were thrilled to welcome Virginia Addicott as our guest speaker. Virginia courageously shared her personal journey as a family member supporting a loved one in recovery. Her words were heartfelt, powerful, and deeply moving. A reminder that recovery impacts not just individuals, but entire families.

Our Guest of Honor, graduate Devin Young, exemplifies what perseverance and passion can accomplish. Devin’s character, determination, and commitment to growth allowed him to successfully complete the Turning Point Program. We could not be more proud of the work he has done. Congratulations, Devin! Welcome to the Summit County Turning Point Program Alumni Group! ❤️

Extra! Extra! In honor of Black History Month, Judge Oldfield and the Turning Point staff teamed up for the door decorating contest at the Summit County Courthouse. Our theme? The Daily Dose of Joy News! 📰

We celebrated 100 years of Black history, honoring local political figures, and even used vintage Akron Legal News as our backdrop to give the display an authentic newspaper feel.

As Black History Month comes to a close, the gratitude continues. Thank you to the leaders, visionaries, and change makers who paved the way! Whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in justice moved history forward!
