In 2005, I left Antigua with a suitcase full of hope and not a clue what I was going to study.
I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician… but I dropped chemistry and biology in high school……so that was short-lived). If we’re being honest it changed a few times …..from AuD to ENT (notice how it was always a health science 🤔

Thankfully, I’ve got siblings who are older, wiser, and very BOSSY (whatever they told mommy and daddy, was what I was expected to do). It was my sister who charted a new course for me, which started with Linguistics, then pivoting to Communication Sciences and Disorders. Honestly, I had zero idea what a Speech-Language Pathologist even was back then. But fast forward, and I can’t imagine being anything else.

I did the schooling, the internships, the late-night papers…..ya’ll wouldn’t believe it, but I’m still taking courses!!!! Deep down, I’m a proud nerd…… but we don’t need to talk about that😉

Over the years, I’ve watched my dreams shift and grow….(there is one thing that’s constant but He said not yet)….. and now, 20 years later, I stand here grounded in grace, rooted in purpose, and overflowing with gratitude. What started as uncertainty has become a calling.

Today, I’m thrilled (and a little…..nah im kidding ALOT…… in awe) to share that I’ve officially joined academia, planted in the rich soil of Husky Nation as an Assistant Clinical Professor!🙌🏾🎉

This chapter is called “God’s doing it again.”
I can’t wait to see what He writes next.

Jason Bassue Peters in June I said I wanna have a corner office like you, but I don’t want to be the boss. Look at me now, I got city views baby!!!!! 😝😝

👂🏾Happy World Hearing Day! 🦻🏾

Did you know that hearing plays a BIG role in speech and language development? 🤔

Without clear access to sound, children may struggle to develop strong communication skills. That’s why regular hearing screenings are so important! Here’s how they help:

✅ Ruling Out Hearing Issues – Even mild hearing loss can affect how a child hears speech sounds, impacting pronunciation and language growth.

✅ Social & Emotional Development – Kids with hearing difficulties may struggle with confidence and social interactions. Early detection helps them stay engaged with peers!

✅ Academic Success – Hearing is essential for following directions, learning new words, and participating in class. Undiagnosed hearing issues can lead to frustration and learning challenges.

✅ Early Support = Better Outcomes – If a child has hearing loss, early intervention (like hearing aids, assistive tech, or therapy) can make a HUGE difference in their communication and learning journey.

🚫 Don’t wait! Hearing screenings are a simple step toward strong language skills and lifelong success. When was the last time your child’s hearing was checked? Comment below! 👇🏾
