Business owners be aware of this Chinese scam:
Recently a Company in China contacted our company for a quote of steel towers to be shipped to Africa.
When we inquired about wind speed of the country if they know or if they don't, then they should tell us the name of the country so that we can find out by ourselves. They replied Venezuela . But initially they said Africa. After sending them the quote and the purchase order or sales contract for them to sign to confirm the order, now they want our CEO to come to China to sign an Official Chinese contract with them.
Below is their last email reply to us.
" Glad to receive your reply.
We have estimated your contract and we think the contract can be treated as the official version. The official contract shall be justed by the Chinese law.For a better cooperation, our CEO hopes your CEO could come to Xi'an in China recently to have a face-to-face conference, then we can sign an official letter contract. We hope that we can build a long-term relationship through the first cooperation."
Now this is similar to a story we read from a Chinese Spams list website - http://www.kompass.com.cn/notice_en.htm
Below is the story of the victim and can be read from the website above
They are trying to do business with me as well, and to be honest with you I think that this is a 100% scam. Company I used to work for been scammed by Chinese several months ago. Let me tell you our story it may explain to you why do I think that this is a scam.
We have been contacted about year ago by Chinese Import + Export Company about our oven bags. They have asked for price so I have provided all details to them. They have ordered 8 million bags without see even a sample. They didn't even asked about samples. Order was too big for my company as it was transaction for nearly 1 million dollars so I have agreed conditions with my supplier and passed it to them.
Company have professionally done website and they were selling absolutely everything (same as this company), I may sound "clever" now but we weren't then!!! Our suppliers' sales manager ask them if they want some samples before they place an order and they eventually agreed to see samples. They said that we can come to their site and sign a contract so our supplier decided to do this as it was the biggest order they've ever got "TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE"!!!! Sales manager went to China and (you wouldn't believe) company exist, they had two floors of offices in office skyscraper (they have rented offices for few months and scammed several companies within this time). Obviously that wiped off all suspicious he had and they signed the contract. When signing they told him that it will cost 7000 Euro to notarize this contract and they propose that will share this amount 50-50. He rang UK office and transferred 3500Euro to China company account. After he returned to UK never heard again from them. Chinese Chamber of Commerce said that this company has been reported as a scammer few times within last few weeks so It is worth to check their web sites first.
Our supplier lost 3500 Euro plus travel and hotels expenses and had to face and deal with criminals!!!! Because my supplier is a company with millions of Pounds yearly turnover it was only a lesson for them but if that would be me it would cost me a lot of money and time to earn it back.
