Hi, Iโ€™m Robin Richardson & Iโ€™m a lifelong learner who has dedicated my career to public service, collaborative partnerships & community engagement. Because Iโ€™ve lived with two chronic conditions, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, for most of my life (& didnโ€™t know it until recently!) & Iโ€™ve had Long Covid since 2024, Iโ€™ve been on a life-long journey to feel whole. BREATHING SPACE was created to support those with chronic conditions but can benefit anyone trying to thrive in a human body. WHY MINDFULNES? Often our suffering doesn't come from our environment. It comes from our patterns, our rushing, & the stories our minds tell us. By slowing down for a moment & noticing what comes up, over time, we can literally reduce our own suffering. Mindfulness is a practice that can be uncomfortable and may take time to see the benefits just like a new workout. Our evidence-based offerings have proven to help many people alleviate much suffering, some of which have been utilized for thousands of years. ๐Ÿค” WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?? Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is an ancient practice where we sit in the space between being awake & being asleep, uniquely allowing us to access deep rest in ways we can't with sleep alone.

๐Ÿ˜ฏ WAIT, IT'S NOT YOGA? Yoga Nidra is a form of yoga done in stillness in a position where you are as comfortable as possible.

๐Ÿซค BUT I'M NOT COMFORTABLE ON THE FLOOR. Yoga Nidra can be done in any supported posture. At Yoga Edge, we have chairs for those who prefer not to lay down. You can always call into our weekly class from your bed, couch or wherever you're most comfortable.

๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ I'M NOT GOOD AT MEDITATING. Unlike other forms of meditation, Yoga Nidra is fully guided at a slow pace, allowing your mind & body to gently come into stillness. Many who struggle with other forms of meditation find Yoga Nidra to be accessible.

๐Ÿ˜ด I'M AFRAID I'LL FALL ASLEEP. It happens & it's ok. During Yoga Nidra, you will likely drift in and out of consciousness. It is said that 1 hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to sleeping 3-4 hours. You'll receive the benefits regardless if you're awake or asleep.

๐Ÿ™„ AN HOUR IS TOO LONG. In our weekly class, we begin with gentle breathwork or movement to help our bodies prepare for stillness. A typical Yoga Nidra practice is 35-45 minutes, but because we're accessing such deep rest, afterwards most people are surprised the practice was more than 10 minutes.

๐Ÿ˜ฉ IDK. I'VE NEVER DONE YOGA OR MEDITATION. ๐Ÿ’™ As with all of our offerings, no experience is necessary. Curiosity is all you need. ๐Ÿ’™ There's no way to do this right or wrong so give it a try!

We don't all love winter, and that's ok. Perhaps try taking a moment to sit in the discomfort of cold temps, unpredictable precipitation & less sunlight.

We often are quick to label ourselves: "I'm NOT a winter person," and we wish away these shorter days.

But these urges can enhance our own suffering, and often in facing our discomfort head on, they're not as bad as we make them seem.

Even if the cold isn't your thing, can you surprise yourself delighting in small moments of joy? A favorite sweater, a soft blanket, an earlier bedtime.

Every season has its pros and cons. Can you play with holding the good with the bad?

(Despite sweaters & fireplaces, Murray was born & raised in Austin, TX & as half Chihuahua, he'll never forgive me for moving us up to Pennsylvania ๐Ÿ˜‚).
