It’s not often you get to spend a weekend with such a positive, influential person. Meet Irene!
This was Irene’s first time in the United States, visiting while representing over 70 Kenyan cooperatives as President of Murang’a County Coffee Dealers Company. I’ve never been so honored to share someone’s first-ever Rite Aid pharmacy experience, just before midnight in San Diego 😊
I’m truly hoping to partner with Irene in the future—these coffees are exceptional. Just another reminder of how coffee connects us around the world.
Thank you, Irene, for shining your light on me and the Artisan team!

Still spinning from World of Coffee in San Diego.
Showcasing coffee in a way that truly captures what makes it special is a massive feat — thank goodness I’m surrounded by people who are incredibly good at organizing and bringing it all together.

Good Medicine Coffee is now looking at Rwandan coffees for a November arrival.

Any favorites you’d love to see make a return to the menu?

It’s hard to sum up what World of Coffee is, because it’s something different to everyone. How cool is it that people show up from across the entire supply chain, all wanting to make a positive impact for everyone involved? It’s part music festival, part business, part connection—where community and passion collide. And it’s so much more than just chasing the perfect cup. It’s about supporting a cause, honoring quality, and showing that you genuinely care.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported Good Medicine Coffee over the years. I can honestly say I feel incredibly lucky to surround myself with professionals who want to make an impact and who are committed to collaboratively bringing out the best in one another.

This time of year is when importing and coffee roasting collide. With Ethiopian bookings now closed, coffee needing to be roasted, contracts still to be written, and the largest coffee convention looming in just two weeks, no amount of preparation ever seems to be enough.
Motivation always seems to find itself at the bottom of a mug of good medicine—coffee that, to this day, gets me out of bed early and reminds me to take that extra care to brew an amazing cup.
All that being said, I’m honored to share my craft and care with those of you who understand that it’s the little bit of extra effort that can make all the difference in the world.

World of Coffee San Diego is almost here! Known as one of the largest coffee events on the planet, WOC brings the global coffee world together in one seriously caffeinated place. Yep—it’s that big.
This year, Good Medicine Coffee gets to do something extra special: roasting and showcasing women-grown and women-owned East African coffees from Artisan Coffee Imports.
If you’re new to WOC, here’s the scoop—it’s a big deal. This is where we nerd out hard, peeling back every layer of coffee: origin, process, and what makes that perfect cup hit just right.
My personal win this year? The confidence to show up and share my work alongside some truly incredible roasters from around the world. Am I literally sharing the stage with THE BEST ROASTERS IN THE WORLD? No—they have their own event, But I am proud of my offerings, my style, and my ability to roast with intention.
That confidence comes from surrounding myself with people and professionals who inspire me to be better every single day.
Here’s to chasing the perfect cup—and having a little fun along the way.

I was lucky enough to be reminded of what Good Medicine can be.

Thanks for making room for another friend in Grand Rapids 🙌

Tasting coffee starts with connecting the flavors you already know.
Chocolate, almonds, apples, berries — there’s no wrong answer. It all begins with slowing down, being present, and letting your memories rise to the surface.

Dad’s German chocolate cake.
Blooming lavender on a late‑summer evening.
Homemade strawberry‑rhubarb jam.

Start with the flavors that shaped you. Let them guide what you taste today. And most importantly, share the moment — so those memories pass on to the next generation.

Yes! You all are correct that a great cup of coffee starts with the right beans. But here’s the part most folks don’t realize…

At Good Medicine HQ we also tune the minerals in our water to round out acidity and bring the sweetness forward. It’s a tiny detail that makes a huge difference in the cup.

Here’s what each mineral brings to the party:

🧲 Magnesium

Boosts extraction, sharpens clarity, and brings out those bright, fruity notes.

🧂 Calcium Chloride

Adds body, smooths sharp acidity, and gives the cup a more rounded, complete feel.

🌊 Sea Salt (Sodium)

Enhances sweetness and softens bitterness — like seasoning food, but subtle.

Ever wonder how we figure out the roast level at Good Medicine Coffee? Sure, we could just look at a batch and say, “Eh, looks light, must be a light roast.” But we like to get a little nerdy with it.
That gadget in the photo (shoutout to Le Brew) is a color meter. It gives us an Agtron number—basically a scale from 150 to 0. Higher number = lighter roast. Lower number = darker roast. Easy.
Why bother? Because it helps us keep things consistent from batch to batch, and it tells us how far we can push a coffee. Can we take it lighter? Should we take it darker? Plus, it lets us match a production roast to the little 50g sample we started with.
Just another day in the life of a roaster.

I had the pleasure of meeting, chatting, and hanging out with the boys from the last night. We talked bikes, coffee, CrossFit, and what it was like to run a B&B in Montana. Getting to see the V13 Studio in person was super cool too—such an awesome space and absolutely worth checking out, especially with what V13 Cycling Apparel is building. My stoke is at an 11 heading into the upcoming cycling season.

One of the coolest takeaways for me was seeing how these guys show up for the community—not just through shoutouts and special guests, but by using the bicycle as a tool to connect all of us. The work they put in is no small feat, and it’s incredibly inspiring to see how committed they are to building something bigger than themselves.

Thanks for having me as a guest. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to kick it with you guys.

And seriously—reach out if there’s anything I can do to support what you’re building… even if it’s just a late‑night drop‑in to crush some of that KILLER JERKY.

Here’s to always progressing!

Here’s an inside peek at what it takes to source coffee.

Believe it or not, Good Medicine Coffee is already looking at Ethiopian coffees and planning for a September 2026 arrival! Lucky for me, I have an inside line to some amazing lots coming out of Ethiopia. As I type this, the Artisan Imports team (my other side hustle) is preparing very small quantities of 2026 offerings that will give us a clear understanding of the quality to come.
Why is this important, you ask? Well, good coffee doesn’t just happen. I use this opportunity to make informed decisions about what I want to share with you. These are the same coffees I take great pride in roasting and enjoying myself.
I understand that not everyone is looking for an “experience” in their cup of coffee. But know this—when you purchase coffee from Good Medicine Coffee, you’re not just getting quality. You’re supporting a supply chain of small businesses that care deeply about what they do.
And care is exactly what the doctor ordered. It’s Good Medicine Coffee.
