Texas Music for Life provides financial assistance to Texas musicians of all genre of music who are facing hardships due to a serious illness, disability, or age related issue. TEXAS MUSIC FOR LIFE was founded by Jay Weeks and Marc Durham, both of whom are member of the Amarillo based group, The Texas Blues Rangers. When three of their “brothers in music” were diagnosed with cancer and were each facing thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket medical expenses, Jay and Marc decided it was time to do something to help their brothers. By forming TEXAS MUSIC FOR LIFE, they hope to spread this concept across the great state of Texas and help as many fellow Texas musicians as they can.
Texas has its own unique music scene, complete with over 200 radio stations that specialize in Texas Music and report airplay to The Texas Music Chart, numerous Texas Music publications, and a plethora of Texas Music venues – all of which generate millions of dollars in revenue each year. Texas is proud of its enormous wealth of talented musicians – some are well-known, and some are not so well-know. Even with adequate health insurance, there are still many health-related out-of-pocket expenses which must be paid, and these expenses can easily add up to thousands of dollars per year. TEXAS MUSIC FOR LIFE will assist with those expenses based on a stringent set of criteria which must be met in order to qualify. Texas musicians are a tight-knit group of individuals who love their music, and they love their fellow musicians. Through TEXAS MUSIC FOR LIFE, they have the opportunity to host or participate in fund-raising concerts and events and to help other Texas musicians who are struggling financially because of major medical bills. http://www.youtube.com/texasmusicforlife
