06/21/2014 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A muppet, a meatball, a roly poly low rider, a pleasantly plump mush - you call it and it fits! This morsel of cute is "knee high to a grasshopper", and oh so smiley and tail waggy. Likely housetrained she 'went' as soon as we were out the door, and then she showed off lovely leash manners as we walked to the park. She likes to walk close and checks up often to make sure we are OK. We are, Diana, we are! Posing for pictures looking all girly girly in a pink neckpiece, Diana is a rockstar who takes treats gently as her reward. She loves climbing into my lap and leans into my hand as I pet her face - sort of like a cat would. If I stop petting her she noses me a bit until I start again. How cute is that! Her eyes close in bliss as I pet her, and my reward is a sweet and gentle kiss from her. As other dogs pass she ignores them, content to be with her human friend. In a pen in the back she explores for a few moments, and then comes back to be close to me. This is a little girl who values and enjoys her human connection. She lives up to the definition of her name, 'heavenly', 'divine', luminous', 'perfect'..... I couldn't agree more with the choice of the name Diana for this little smiling mushball. Come meet her today and come up with your own list of adjectives to describe her. You'll need to take her home to complete the list!
06/21/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Diana walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment - low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Diana was shy during handling, with stiff or fearful body language. Diana had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Diana was not interested in toys or rawhide. She was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Diana was a bit shy during the behavior assessment but she like to stay close to the handler to be petted. Staff member and volunteer reported that Diana shows some barrier frustration behaviors in her kennel - barking, lunging and aggressively displaying at dogs or people from behind bars but when she is out of the kennel she is a very friendly dog. The behavior department feels that Diana can go to an Experience home. Look: 2. Dog's eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit stiff and fearful, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is low, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog - dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long Helper:A1003672
