💙 Update on Miles’ Health 💙
Last September, Miles was hospitalized for uncontrollable pain. After a lot of tests, the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong and released him on steroids to help manage the pain. Their recommendation was for him to see a rheumatologist.
We waited months to get into a rheumatologist in Idaho Falls, and when things weren’t moving quickly, we decided to go through the VA clinic in Salt Lake City instead. It took until March of this year to finally get that appointment. In the meantime, Miles also went through a series of cardiovascular issues that thankfully turned out to be nothing — his heart is fine.
More recently, we were able to begin working with another rheumatologist in Salt Lake City. After extensive testing, we finally have some answers. Miles has been diagnosed with Myocysticercosis (pronounced my-oh-sis-tuh-sur-KOH-sis), and the doctors have also said there is a possibility he may have bone cancer.
To determine that, he will be on low-dose chemotherapy for six weeks, followed by labs that will show whether or not it is bone cancer. In addition, he has issues in the thoracic region of his back that will require surgery, and he will eventually need a complete left shoulder replacement.
This has been a long and difficult road, but Miles continues to face everything with courage and strength. We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support of our friends and family. Please continue to keep Miles in your thoughts and prayers as we move through the weeks and months ahead.
