March is Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Awareness Month. Youth living with experience exposure to trauma at a higher rate than their non-disabled peers. This month is a time to raise awareness about IDD and to create environments where people with disabilities feel welcomed, valued and supported in their contributions. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month.

According to the Alaska Department of Health, one out of every five reported injuries in our state includes a brain injury. Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) are a leading cause of disability in Alaska, and those navigating life with a TBI are beneficiaries of the Trust.

While often associated with contact sports, TBIs frequently occur from everyday incidents like falls on ice or motor vehicle accidents. The Trust works closely with partners across the state to help ensure beneficiaries have access to the specialized support and resources they need.
