When was the last time you jumped??

When a client presents us trainers with a problem they’re having and want to solve, we break it down into actionable steps, find where they’re at in their progression, and work to improve from there.
__
This particular client wanted to jump, to see if she still could because she couldn’t remember the last time she had done it. She is almost 80 so it had been a long time since she last jumped. She also thought it would be fun, and knowing the health benefits of jumping we decided to work on it.
__

“With good gear and a good mindset/attitude, you can do a lot and still have fun”

This is something Alaskans live by during the long winter season. It took me a while to adopt this mindset but it’s very true. This is a message we pass on to our clients at The Natural Studio.

There are lots of fun summer activities we all look forward to, and in order to be able to do them all to the best of our abilities we must stay ready year round. Discipline and motivation are tougher to come by during the winter. I get it. I’ve been there before and sometimes still fall off the track but I’ve learned to get back up and keep going.

Bathe in Beauty

Here I am reading an excerpt from the book I’m reading (Stillness is the Key). The chapter is “Bathe in Beauty” and I felt inspired to share this because we often times can get lost in the ugly side of things and miss out on all the beautiful things that surround us.
__
It is a skill to find beauty in all the things that we do and see everything day, in all the things we may take for granted, in the people we interact with on a daily basis. There is beauty everywhere, but we must allow ourselves to see it and appreciate it.
__
At The Natural Studio we communicate with our clients about the importance of stillness and observation. Sure we mainly focus on physical fitness but that is one of many aspects of health. We guide our clients to find new perspectives so that we can improve in every area of our lives.

How do you breathe?
__
Sounds like a very simple question right? But that’s not always the case. Some people breathe through their mouth without even realizing it. Some take really shallow and fast breaths. Some even hold it for long periods of time. This all often times happens subconsciously but I’m here to help you bring awareness to it and reclaim your attention and take control of your nervous system.
__
The 4 steps are:

1. Clear your nose
2. Tongue in the “N” position
3. Close your mouth
4. Breathe through your nose
__
If you do this throughout the day and bring awareness to your breath you will start to tap into and eventually reclaim control of your attention, your focus, you can allow your nervous system to be more calm and feel more grounded. The breath is key in many stillness practices like meditation and in some gentle movements like yoga.
__

This is really not that complicated. Cardio does not have to be this big scary word that keeps you from being able to use your body to its full potential. An improved cardiovascular system will enhance just about every other system in your body and every area of your life. You just have to commit to do the work.

First Monday of a brand new year 🙌🏽

We love new beginnings, we love to reset, to renew our mindset, and to take on new challenges once our batteries are recharged. Today is the day to start adopting that mentality.
__
There is a lot of that same energy floating around in the collective consciousness. If you can tap into that to get some guidance, it would do wonders for you as you begin take on the new year. Reflect on the past year and write some things down. Meditate on this coming year and write some things down. Open your mind and sit in silence to receive guidance, information, answers from the collective.

Staying active during vacation is not so challenging for me, maintaining a strict diet and portion control is 😬

I’m out of Alaska visiting family in New Mexico and Nevada. Our families love getting together and sharing food so it’s been feast after feast and honestly, I’m enjoying it so much. I won’t have this for long and once I go back to Alaska it’s back to business. For right now though the food is delicious, people are great, the sun is shining and warm, I’ll take it 👌🏽
