If you have a sweet tooth now and then, it's ideal to bake your own. This very almondy creation- as I had been dreaming of almond - got whipped up in my kitchen in a few minutes from items I had around. A moist texture - not cake like or scone like .

Preheat oven to 350

2 c almond flour
2/3 c sugar
1/3 cup regular flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
MIX THOSE TOGETHER THEN ADD

1 STICK melted butter, 1 egg, almond extract and vanilla to taste. I added "with my heart"- at least 1 teaspoon almond extract, and 2 teaspoon of vanilla that I make myself. Mix those all well, then blend in with a spoon, to the flour mixture.

I let the batter sit for 30 min to the bowl before putting it into the muffin cups.

I had just enough for these standard size muffin molds. I pressed generous amounts of sliced almonds on top

Bake for 20 minutes or a bit more. Remove from oven and let sit for half an hour , as the interior will continue to cook a bit.

Bon appetit. Happy Valentine's Day.

Nervous System Regulation- we hear a lot about that these days, but what is it, really, and how does bodywork and massage influence us towards a balanced nervous system?

I have received - and also given- literally thousands of massage therapy sessions, over many years. And directed/founded for 16 a State Licensed massage school, so I have a few inklings....

Our body systems are very holistically interrelated- Nervous, Cardiovascular, respiratory, Lymphatic to name just a few that we commonly think about. As we warm tissues, move blood and lymph, and clear congested areas of various kinds- our Nervous System is always the connected balancer and gatekeeper. In a well designed , safe and comfortable session, we are going to become more grounded. Space for mental integration - the kind that happens during meditation, during sound sleep- can occur, which is an important emotional aspect of a balanced nervous system.

In basic down to earth terms, we feel relaxed on a deep level, also vitalized with releases of body energy that were previously stuck. This is a wonderful effect of a well designed bodywork session!

Regular and consistent massage therapy- whether that be weekly, twice a month, or a focused treatment plan- has literally changed lives for the better- well beyond body wellness, and into relationship decisions, support for life transitions, mental clarity, recovery, and recuperation.

One thing I found, as a more seasoned therapist, is that over the years, schools were not teaching good foot work, if at all. I would ask for structural and/or reflex foot work and receive a short bit of rubbing. In my school I did vow to correct that, and better yet, in my own practice I do offer quality foot work.

It makes a huge difference in overall stance, nervous system, self care to pursue this. A 90 min session allows a nice stretch of time to add foot care in.

Additionally, FOOT REJUVENATION, as I created it is a series of bodywork sessions to help clients avoid unnecessary surgeries, pain, and orthotics that do not really correct underlying issues. It is entirely possible to heal/correct long standing foot issues, from plantar fascia conditions to other painful medical conditions- while I teach lifelong home practices to keep the feet in restored form.

I get questions frequently about resolution for TMJ restriction. It can be a painful condition, and interfere with our ability to eat/chew, and appetite! Massage and bodywork therapies can help, but even better, in combination with a local castor oil pack , some heat, and if open to it, some nervous system herbs. The pattern is beyond physical, and into emotional and stress realms. In even one or two bodywork sessions, I can guide clients to do some self care practices at home.
