Noah’s Fight to Beat Cancer
It is with a heavy but very hopeful heart that we share the story of our son Noah (6 years old). After a long few weeks of running to different doctors and hospitals, being treated for wrong diagnosis (sinus infections, pink eye, and preseptal cellulitis) and watching his symptoms worsen as the time went on during these diagnosis’s, we decided to finally making a trip U of M where he was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in the maxillary sinus area on the left side of his face on May 18th, 2019. Ewing’s sarcoma is a very rare type of cancerous tumor that grows in your bones or the soft tissue around your bones, such as cartilage or the nerves. Ewing’s sarcoma affects about 200 children and young adults every year in the United States and shows up slightly more often in males.
The team of oncologists at U of M said that Noah’s case is it is a very rapid growing tumor so treatment was put in place to begin immediately. Noah's treatment plan is estimated to take a minimum of 6 months. He is getting 5 different chemotherapy drugs with different medications that have to be taken at home as well. Noah will be getting both inpatient and outpatient treatment at U of M in Ann Arbor through the course of his treatments. Around August Beaumont Hospital of Royal Oak will be conducting a radiation treatment called Proton Radiation. . Surgery is something the entire medical team will review later to determine if/how they will operate to try and remove the tumor due to the delicate place it is located. We will try and keep updates going often on how Noah is doing through all of this.
We share Noah’s story so we can keep the continued prayer chain going for his healing to beat this. He is a very determined sweet boy who has been so brave and done incredible so far with all of the tests, scans, surgeries, and treatments he's been through in such a short amount of time. He has a port that will remain in his chest until the treatment is completed. We call it his power port and he is a super hero now with his own special powers. #teamnoahstrong
