Reposting from the City of Fredericksburg 🌱✨
17 new solar-powered LED lights now brighten Dixon Park trails—powered 100% by renewable energy and cutting over 2 metric tons of CO₂ per pole/year. Smart, safe, and sustainable!
Fredericksburg parks are shining brighter with sustainable upgrades. Earlier this summer, 17 solar-powered LED lights were installed along the trails at Dixon Park, similar to the system already in place at Riverfront Park. While Riverfront’s light poles also feature USB charging ports available for public use at any time, the Dixon Park lights focus solely on efficient trail illumination. An additional 17 lights are scheduled to be installed at Dixon Park next year.
Each solar light pole is equipped with a 260-watt panel mounted at the top and connected to a 24-volt battery. During the day, the panel generates electricity and stores it in the battery, which powers the lights from dusk to dawn using 100% renewable energy. Every pole reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than two metric tons annually, making a meaningful contribution to the City’s sustainability goals.
The system also gives Parks and Recreation staff full control over the lighting. Staff can program when the lights turn on and off, adjust brightness levels, and modify settings for special evening events in the park. This flexibility allows the City to maximize safety and accessibility while conserving energy.
With these new solar lights, Fredericksburg is reducing its environmental footprint and ensuring its parks remain safe, well-lit, and welcoming for all.
