The Love of Family

The idea for House of Oilworx started in March of 2017. Life had decided to throw a wrench in our family’s plans - our blended household had settled down in Minnesota, only to relocate temporarily to help our Missouri family get through some tough times. Both of our Missouri matriarchs were down for the count - Jamie’s Grandmother, Nanny, had just turned 90 years young when she was struck by a stroke and serious fall, resulting in a head injury and another stroke. Two weeks later, Jamie’s mom was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia that was thought at first to be shingles. Talk about a shock to the family’s system!

We knew that Jamie’s family needed our help, so we packed up our things, sold our house in Minnesota, worked out some logistics with our children’s co-parents, and moved to Missouri to help our family get through some really tough times.

We moved in with Nanny to be her full-time caregivers. Her speech and mental state were heavily impacted by the strokes and the head injury. Although she was a handful on many days, she was our Nanny, and we did our best to make sure she was living well. Eventually, she deteriorated to the point that we could no longer take care of her, and she moved into a care facility. She passed away in September of 2018, less than one year after the events that triggered this adventure for our family.
