The Eureka Rhododendron Parade rolls through town on Saturday, April 25th at 10am. The parade kicks off at 7th & E Streets and winds its way to Henderson & C Streets — grab a spot along the route and soak it all in.

Spring in Humboldt doesn't get much better than this. We hope to see you there!

Kids and teens feel stress too — but they often can't find the words for it. Here's what it might look like instead:

In younger kids: more clinginess, tantrums, bedwetting after being dry, stomachaches or headaches before school, changes in appetite or sleep.

In tweens and teens: withdrawing from friends or family, dropping grades, irritability, changes in eating or sleeping, physical complaints with no clear cause, or just seeming "off."

They may not say "I'm stressed." But their behavior is often saying it for them.

You don't have to have all the answers — just staying close, keeping the door open, and not making it a big deal can go a long way. And if you're concerned, it's always worth a visit to your child's provider. Sometimes stress shows up as physical symptoms, and sometimes physical symptoms cause stress. Either way, getting checked out is a smart first step.

Here's a number that might surprise you: every 13 minutes, an emergency room in the United States treats a sports-related eye injury. And kids are especially at risk — eye injuries are the leading cause of blindness in children, with most happening during sports.

A hit to the eye isn't always just a black eye. It can mean bleeding inside the eye, a scratched cornea, or a fractured orbital bone. And spring sunshine brings its own risk — kids' eyes are more vulnerable to UV damage than adults'.

The good news? About 90% of sports-related eye injuries are preventable with the right protective eyewear — sport-specific goggles or guards, and UV-protective sunglasses outdoors.

If your child takes a hit to the eye, even a seemingly minor one, it's worth getting checked out. Our ER is here 24/7, and our pediatric team is always available for follow-up.
