In many cases, additional certifications and continuing education help bridge the gap between clinical experience and operational leadership. When clinicians step into healthcare business roles, the learning doesn’t stop.

Some of the most commonly pursued options include:

1. FACHE (Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives)
2. CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality)
3. CHFP (Certified Healthcare Financial Professional)
4. HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association)
5. CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems)

Each option supports a different focus, from leadership and finance to quality improvement and health information systems. The right choice often depends on where you want your career to grow next.

Behind every collaboration is a physician who brings experience, perspective, and a commitment to working alongside others.

Through our Physician Spotlight series, we share a closer look at the clinicians who support collaborative care and value open, respectful working relationships.

Today, we are featuring Dr. Alexander. Take a moment to get to know him and learn more about the physician behind the collaboration.

A Department of Education proposal under discussion could significantly change federal student loan limits for advanced nursing programs, including NP pathways. And while this may seem or sound like a financial policy issue on the surface, the downstream impact could reach much further into workforce growth, access to healthcare, and the future of advanced practice in general.

This is an active conversation, not a finalized outcome. It's also worth paying attention to, especially for organizations invested in workforce growth, care access, and sustainable provider care models.

As a company, we're gonna continue monitoring how this evolves and what it means for the clinicians and partners we serve. But in the meantime, if you would like your voice heard, go to regulations.gov and search for "Reimagining and improving student loan education" to find the docket and post your public comment.

The comment period is open until March 2nd, so make sure you get your voice heard before then if that interests you.

NPs & PAs, what does your dream practice look like?

02/16/2026

When you open your doors, it’s easy to assume that once you start seeing patients, the money will start coming in. In reality, insurance reimbursement can take 60, 90, or even up to 120 days, and that gap can be brutal if you aren’t prepared. Credentialing often takes longer than expected—we hear this all the time.

When you’re not panicking about cash flow, you can make better clinical and business decisions and actually enjoy practice ownership.

If you’re early in the process, start here: assume reimbursement will be slow, build your cushion before you open your doors, not after. Planning for reimbursement delays doesn’t mean you’re pessimistic—it means you’re prepared, and prepared clinicians build sustainable practices.

When people think about healthcare business management, it often feels vague or overly corporate. In reality, it usually leads in a few clear directions.

Three common career paths include:

1. Executive leadership and corporate management
2. Healthcare consulting and advisory services
3. Entrepreneurship and innovation in the healthcare business

Each path offers a different way to influence care, support clinicians, and shape how healthcare systems actually work day to day.

If you’re curious how a healthcare business management degree fits into these trajectories, we walk through what it involves and what to consider here:

We’re excited to share that Collaborating Docs and our Director of Growth Initiatives, Tavi Schlueter, were recently featured in The Clinical Advisor, discussing the evolving telehealth landscape and what it means for care access moving forward. 🎉

Telehealth has become a critical bridge — connecting patients to care regardless of geography, mobility, or provider shortages.

That’s where our work lives. Collaborating Docs supports the clinical collaboration frameworks that allow nurse practitioners and physician assistants to practice, expand services, and participate in care models like telehealth.

We’re committed to advancing conversations about how care can remain accessible, flexible, and sustainable — for both patients and the clinicians serving them.

From state-specific regulations and licensing to compliance requirements and payer considerations, there are many pieces that need to align for a practice to run smoothly.

Thoughtful planning around structure, operations, and financial systems helps create a strong foundation. For many NP- led practices, working with physicians through clear, well-defined agreements plays a key role in maintaining compliance and supporting both the clinical and business sides of care.

If you are considering opening your own practice or want to better understand the process, visit https://collaboratingdocs.com/nurse-practitioner-business-how-to-start-your-own-practice/? to learn more.

Nurse practitioners must navigate state-specific regulations, licensing, and compliance, including HIPAA, Stark Law, and DEA registration. Strategic planning for NPs requires entity formation, payer contracting, revenue cycle management, and building a sustainable financial and operational infrastru...

NPs & PAs, where are you in your private practice journey?

Today, we’re unpacking some recent updates from the federal government—specifically changes to the CDC’s vaccine schedule and updates to the national dietary guidelines, including the food pyramid.

We’ll talk about what these changes mean for clinicians and real-world practice, so stay tuned.

Over the past few weeks, the CDC released a revised childhood immunization schedule that reduces the number of vaccines universally recommended for all children.

The updated schedule now organizes vaccines into three categories: those recommended for all children, those recommended for certain high-risk groups, and situations where providers and families should decide together—what the CDC refers to as shared clinical decision-making.
