First Aid of the Soul

We offer accessible mental health & psychosocial support services to Ukrainians affected by the war.

First Aid of the Soul (FAS), [registered 501(c)3 EIN: 88-1464538] is a collective of dedicated professionally trained mental health clinicians from North America and across Europe offering accessible and free mental health and psychosocial support services to individuals affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine. Our services are trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, holistic, and consist of creative approaches. FAS’s vision is to restore a sense of dignity, belonging, and well-being to the soul of Ukraine. FAS does this work by offering a wide array of support services spanning from support groups, supervision, mentorship, training, workshops, and self-help materials.

🎤 Ведуча: Керрі Трейер — психотерапевтка з 25-річним досвідом, викладачка психології, дослідниця горя, втрат і творчих підходів до зцілення.

Дорогі друзі FAS ✨

Зустрічаючи Новий 2026 рік, ми хочемо затриматися, щоб відзначити те, що нас підтримує: тиху, щоденну практику надії. В Україні люди, яким ми служимо, показують нам, що навіть у моменти втрат і виснаження піклування одне про одного, присутність поруч та перебування разом є потужними проявами надії.

Для FAS велика честь, що на сьогодні ми змогли підтримати вже понад 22,000 українців через надання психологічних послуг, що сприяють зміцненню стійкості та зціленню щодня.

У цьому Новому році ми збережемо в серці прагнення справедливого миру для України та відвагу продовжувати обирати надію — не як далеку мрію, а як спосіб жити — разом. Нехай 2026 рік принесе миті тепла та близькості, навіть у складні часи.

As we welcome the New Year 2026, we pause to reflect on what sustains us: the quiet, daily practice of hope. In Ukraine, the people we serve remind us that even amid loss and exhaustion, caring for one another, showing up, and standing together are among the most powerful acts of hope.

FAS is honored to have supported, to date, over 22,000 Ukrainians through mental health services building resilience and healing every day.

Below is Fialkora’s poem, shared in Ukrainian and English, reminding us that hope is not passive—it walks with us, sustains us, and stands for us.

Ukrainian:
Надія в нас - не мрія навмання,
Вона з землі, з мовчання та з імен.
Вона крізь втрати вчила нас стоять
І берегла у найтемніший день.
Вона не про чекання, а про шлях,
Про крок вперед, як важко і болить.
І це не сподівання на словах -
Ми нею живемо. Вона за нас стоїть.

English:
Hope in us is not a random wish.
It comes from land, from silence, from names.
Through loss, it taught us how to stand,
And sheltered us through even the darkest days.
It is not about waiting - it is a path,
A step forward when it hurts and feels too hard.
This is not hope that lives only in words -
We live by it. It stands with us, and for us.

✨ A Gift of Stories: Relationality ✨

We’re launching a new storytelling campaign, continuing the tradition of sharing real, powerful stories that reflect the heart of First Aid of the Soul’s work. We begin with Relationality, a collective poem by Joanna Wróblewska, our Therapeutic Support Coordinator (volunteering since 2022), written in response to our December 13 event, Hoping for Hope: A Gift of Stories. The poem captures solidarity, resilience, and hope—even in the hardest times.

“СПІВВІДНОШЕННЯ”
Співвідношення починається з нагальності та солідарності — нашої спільної точки відліку.
Який вигляд має криза для тебе?
Жити повно в утомі, гніві й горі — це форма мистецтва.
Ми стоїмо з Україною.
Один зі шляхів крізь втрату — ділитися історіями, тужити й надіятися за тим, що ми називаємо «нормальним життям»: теплі спогади про безпеку, дитячі мрії, казки й гру. Співати свою пісню й дозволяти уяві прокинутися. Свобода живе в здатності уявляти кращі часи.
Коли здається, що все втрачено, дні позначені тишею. Надія народжується лише в разом-бути. Навіть найсильнішим потрібен промінь сонця, щоб іти далі — їсти теплий суп під обстрілами.
Війна може забрати радість у всіх живих істот, але не здатна стерти тонкі ландшафти співвідношення. Ми все ще живі, і наша культура живе в нас.
Цей шлях болить, але нині це єдиний шлях, яким ми можемо йти. Співчуття — в наших серцях, коли ми стоїмо пліч-о-пліч, свідчачи неймовірну стійкість. Зв’язок між нами — мов свіже повітря для легень.
Чи усвідомлюємо ми, наскільки зросла наша спільна здатність вміщувати емоції?
Життя перемагає.
Мистецтво — живе.
Зв’язок — життєдайний.
