Winter weather can be especially tough for older adults. A few simple precautions can make a big difference in staying safe and warm:
Keep indoor temperatures at 68°F or higher
Dress in layers and choose warm fabrics like wool or fleece
Watch for icy sidewalks to prevent slips and falls
Know the signs of hypothermia, including shivering, gray skin, slowed breathing, or unusual sleepiness
Stock up on food, water, and medications in case roads become unsafe
Check in on loved ones and neighbors — a quick call can go a long way.
