Hi friends!

We’ve been made aware that there are some really disparaging and disrespectful threads on Reddit discussing Benson’s friends, who are fellow children with brain injuries. Disabled children. There is a lot of brutal criticism of the parents, who are doing everything humanly possible to help heal their children.

This won’t be tolerated. If anyone partakes in this spreading of hate, you will be removed from this group.

This life is hard enough as it is, let’s all support one another and lift each other up. ❤️💜

Benson has started doing weekly horse therapy at Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program…we’ve been dreaming of this moment for 4 years 💜

The first picture was his initial session, lots of stiffness and a hard time staying upright. The second picture was his fourth session….45 minutes in and even though he was so tired, his head control & balance were much improved.

Grateful to the owners, volunteers & of course the sweet & sassy ponies 💜🐴❤️

Happy Veterans Day, thank you veterans for your service! ❤️💜❤️

Wanted to share some pretty exciting news! Benson has consistently been interactive with toys & more vocally responsive since his stem cell procedure. He pushed buttons in front of his PT & OT last week using one finger. He started pushing his car back & forth on his own after his nurse showed him how!
Of course I accidentally deleted that video in my excitement 🤦🏻‍♀️. We tried to recreate it here.

It’s World Cerebral Palsy Day! 💚💚💚

God doesn’t give special kids to special parents.
He takes ordinary, imperfect people and
gifts them with His greatest treasures.
And therein, He creates special parents.

Benson is a blessing that we’re grateful for 💚

This week Benson received stem cells from his own bone marrow at HOST, in Monterrey, Mexico. This was our second visit & I can’t express the gratitude we feel in being able to receive this treatment for our son.

The warmth & kindness of the people of Monterrey & the amazing staff at HOST…no words ❤️. Meeting other families in similar situations in their lives is so therapeutic. Just the same as last time, we left with renewed hope.

And last night when we got back home, it was subtle…but Benson started moving his legs in ways we have not seen before ❤️💜

Please keep your prayers coming, send good vibes, rub your crystals, etc for Bensons improvement in vision & communication. Thank you!! 🙏🏼 ❤️

We took B’s casts off earlier this week & are so happy with how much they’ve straightened his feet!!

His range of movement right after was pretty incredible too ❤️

Cerebral palsy interrupts brain messages to the body; Often resulting in muscles that are constantly contracted or unable to contract at all. These muscle contractions can be so hard they literally will dislocate joints. Serial casting, when done correctly & in conjunction with other therapies, can help.

These are Benson’s long casts. They’re specifically called dynamic flexible casting. We’re hoping these help pop his hip joints back into place. It’s very hard to sleep in these but little B is a true warrior with a great attitude! ❤️💜

Hello Friends!

We haven’t posted in a while for many reasons, but we’re back & hoping to fill you in on all things Benson.

Last weekend we were fortunate enough to get a few MNRI sessions from a couple of great therapists. MNRI helps with the brain’s neuroplasticity & connection to the body. The difference was immediate & I wish we could see them every week.

Here are a few pictures of the cutie pie we call B.

Hello Warriors! Hope ya’ll are doing well. It’s been a minute since the last post 😉

We recently moved to a new town & it’s been craaaazy. Getting new drs, medical equipment, therapists, nursing care, schools, home repairs, utilities etc….it’s enough to make our heads spin.

Sweet Benson is doing fantastic. We have a new Physical therapist that is amaze balls. She’s hot chocolate on a snowy day. With cayenne pepper 😂🌶

Here’s a video of him kicking butt at therapy. Look at that head control…he works so hard 💙

She’s talking about eye patching…it has been shown to help those with amblyopia. We just started using it ❤️

Benson’s food blends:

What we’ve found to work best for our lifestyle is making a batch of food (veggies only, fruits only or starches only) freezing it into single serving sizes & then popping those servings into his daily blend. This allows for the widest variety of food combinations.

Instead of dedicating one day entirely to cooking, it takes 30-60 minutes one to two times a week.

We layer the food into our instant pot by how quickly they cook. Here we have local organic carrots, asparagus, bok choy, ramps, green onions, arugula, spinach, cilantro and micro greens.

Did you know purple carrots have the highest level of antioxidants? Followed by yellow, then orange.

Medical Treatments for Brain Injury

This page is for those interested in following Benson’s road to brain injury healing. It’s a holistic, research driven approach built on hope, faith and love. Benson’s name means “Blessed” or “In the hands of God”. We also would not able to pursue these treatments without your support! We will do our best to keep you updated. If he’s our angel; you are his warriors.

Diagnosis: The youngest of three children, Benson suffered a severe brain injury due to complications at birth. He is diagnosed with HIE- hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. HIE is a lack of oxygen and restricted blood flow to the brain. This damage to Benson’s brain has led to several secondary diagnosis, such as Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. He is legally blind, has a hearing impairment and can not safely swallow or clear his airway, requiring a feeding tube to be surgically placed into his stomach; called a G tube.

Birth Story: Benson was born full term on October 23, 2017. During labor, he had a non variable heartbeat and was not breathing when he was delivered. He had a collapsed lung from meconium aspiration and brain damage from lack of oxygen. They resuscitated him, intubated him and placed him in a hypothermic state to preserve brain function. Several days passed and after an MRI they told us the brain damage was very severe and he may not live past two weeks. We flew him on a medical flight to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The doctors there confirmed the extent of the brain damage. Benson was in the NICU for a little over a month.

Therapies and Treatments: We’re currently doing traditional therapies like PT, OT, Speech Therapy and Vision Education. Alternative therapies include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Stem cells and MNRI. Benson’s brain is developing and building new neuro pathways. Our prayers are for it to continue to heal and grow. Here we go!
