This page is for those interested in following Benson’s road to brain injury healing. It’s a holistic, research driven approach built on hope, faith and love. Benson’s name means “Blessed” or “In the hands of God”. We also would not able to pursue these treatments without your support! We will do our best to keep you updated. If he’s our angel; you are his warriors.
Diagnosis: The youngest of three children, Benson suffered a severe brain injury due to complications at birth. He is diagnosed with HIE- hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. HIE is a lack of oxygen and restricted blood flow to the brain. This damage to Benson’s brain has led to several secondary diagnosis, such as Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. He is legally blind, has a hearing impairment and can not safely swallow or clear his airway, requiring a feeding tube to be surgically placed into his stomach; called a G tube.
Birth Story: Benson was born full term on October 23, 2017. During labor, he had a non variable heartbeat and was not breathing when he was delivered. He had a collapsed lung from meconium aspiration and brain damage from lack of oxygen. They resuscitated him, intubated him and placed him in a hypothermic state to preserve brain function. Several days passed and after an MRI they told us the brain damage was very severe and he may not live past two weeks. We flew him on a medical flight to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The doctors there confirmed the extent of the brain damage. Benson was in the NICU for a little over a month.
Therapies and Treatments: We’re currently doing traditional therapies like PT, OT, Speech Therapy and Vision Education. Alternative therapies include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Stem cells and MNRI. Benson’s brain is developing and building new neuro pathways. Our prayers are for it to continue to heal and grow. Here we go!
