During National Eating Disorder Week, it’s important to recognize the deep connection between eating disorders and addiction. Both can stem from a desire to cope with pain, control, or emotions. Whether it’s food, substances, or behaviors, they serve as a way to escape, but they don’t heal the underlying struggles. Meet Ellie, one of our amazing BHTs! Originally from Virginia Beach, she moved here a few months ago to help with the relief efforts from Helene. Ellie’s journey in mental health began in inpatient adolescent psychiatry before transitioning to treatment. As someone in recovery herself, she’s passionate about being the supportive voice and helping hand she never had. Her goal? To be the compassionate ear and guiding push others need on their journey. 💙
