Trying out a sober January? Try pairing it with Safe and Sound Protocol. Our nervous system is constantly scanning the environment to assess for safety. Sometimes, when our world goes topsy turvy, our autonomic nervous system can get stuck in various ways and we may have the following symptoms:
•Difficulty with eating, swallowing, and digesting
•Difficulty in falling and staying asleep
•Rapid or shallow breathing, changes in heart rate and blood pressure
•Challenges in connecting with other people, feelings of isolation or loneliness, and anxiety
•Trouble concentrating, mental clarity, or creativity

SSP is a music therapy that helps you access a safe state once again, responding to your needs, others, and the world with more mental clarity and emotional regulation.

This is a virtual group experience designed to aid you in catering to your own needs in your space while you listen. Alison is a certified SSP provider that will guide you in the listening, suggesting ways to interact with and receive the various messages in your body as you listen. Each 75 minute experience will include a brief check in, listening time, creativity, and group connection.

Our group schedule has an introduction session, 5 listening sessions*, and a concluding session. Cost is $500. You will also be given access to the Balance playlist to help reinforce the listening experience.

Schedule: Tuesdays 11am-12:15pm starting January 6- February 17th

*Every system is different! You may need to listen at a slower pace which is ok. While you will have independent time every week to get through the hour of music, and it's intended that we'll get through the 5 hours in 5 weeks, you may need longer and that can be accommodated through additional group or individual sessions for a negotiated rate with Alison. Insurance coverage may be utilized for individual sessions.

Hearing deeply expressed concerns from both sides inspired me to share this amazing piece by artist Melissa Allin. Here's what she wrote about her experience:

When I began this mosaic, I was surprised at the swirl of emotion that began to take shape with the glass. Each shard carried a different weight:

Grief.
Loss.
Hope.
Desperation.
Conviction.
Responsibility.
Separation.
Loneliness.
Love.

These were trailed closely by the palpable fear that they could all some day be eclipsed by defeat.

I hand cut each piece after piece of stained glass, with its fragility, imperfection, and need for great care, and I realized that this work was both a plea and a love letter. I also found there a grave realization that, without intervention, it could become a eulogy.

As I spent hour after hour intently sculpting these fragments, so reminiscent of our fractured world, into this scene - an outstretched hand shielding a single imperiled match, holding fast to the last bit of light even as what we hold dear collapses around us - an aching question arose: Are these the final flickers, or will we keep the last light alive?

was going to host an art show on October 5th at the ArtPlay gallery on Depot St. The show was entitled, "Embodied: the Felt Sense of Recovery." We had artists in our community and from all over the state submit works to us. All but 4 pieces were lost in the flood. That was a hard email to write, to let these folks know that their personal recovery art works were lost forever.

ArtPlay however is hosting a show for RAD artists on November 16th from 5-8pm and is holding a space for our artists. When asked if these artists would recreate and resubmit their pieces some actually said yes! Please come and see this work, would you? Consider buying some art for your office or for you! Some of the artists will be there too. Iaedp WNC and Monte Nido treatment center is sponsoring the food locally-Haibibi Village and Asheville Cake Lady. Please join us at Engaged Asheville, 41 N Merrimon Ave #107, 28804.

Posting an important video message! This is for folks that want to donate to Asheville outside of the mainstream media recommendations. I also have info regarding an inside view of local politics, needs from tourists and therapists, and a foster dog that needs a home. Please take some time to watch and share!
